Lisinopril

What is Lisinopril?

Lisinopril is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It is used in combination with other medications to treat heart failure. Lisinopril is also used to improve survival after a heart attack. Lisinopril is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.

Questions and answers on "Lisinopril"

I take lisinopril for high blood pressure along with Verapamil. My doctor took me off Verapamil and increase the dosage of lisinopril to 2 pills/day. Since this was done 3 weeks ago, my gums have been sore, red and swollen. I have tried rinses, extra flossing, not helping. Is this a side effect of lisinopril? 54 yrs old, 5'7' 210lbs

Hi

Thanks for writing in.

It could be due to poor oral hygiene.
You need to go for scaling.
Maintain proper oral hygiene by regular brushing & flossing.
Consult your dentist for further treatment plan.

I've taken Lisinopril at 10mg for several weeks with little impact on my blood pressure so my doctor increased the dosage to 20mg. Not long after that, I developed what appears to be a heightened state of dust hypersensitivity. I know that I am "allergic" to dust but this is quite pronounced, including "smelling dust," runny nose as well as a tickling in my throat (and I know that this alone can be a side effect of Lisinopril). My question is whether Lisinopril can increase the sensitivity to dust and therefore explain my symptoms?

I was wondering if lisinopril causes infertility in women . I was taking this for over 3 years and had been unsuccessful in conceiving a child. I recently switched to aldomet and we shall see if there is any luck. If there is a risk of infertility caused by lisinopril, is it reversible and how long does it take for the medication to be cleared out of your system?

doctor1 MD

Hello!

There is no scientific evidence that lisinopril may affect fertility or cause difficulty in natural conception.

However, it is categorized as Class D drug by FDA for teratogenecity, i.e it may cause harm to the unborn fetus, and hence it is certainly advisable not to be on lisinopril and...

Could I take Lipiinopril to bring my pressure down since this is the medication that was working for me best.

doctor1 MD

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Usually when one medicine for high blood pressure does not work, it is necessary to use two medicines from different chemical group together for better clinical effect. Metoprolol is a beta blocker and its effect is caused by making heart work slower so in some...

Can lisinopril cause pedal edema

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Lisinopril doesnt cause pedal oedema. Calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine combinations with Lisinopril can cause ankle edema. Lisinopril by its own doesnt cause any edema.

Hope I have cleared your doubt.
