when turning out the lights everything was red, after about a minute and sitting up it went away. I think I have a sinus infection, could it be pressure causing this? Probably unrelated I have had heart palpatations for about two weeks and pain in my left arm.

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Sudden redness on switching of the lights is normal due to the photoreception due to sudden change of light entering the eye. This is due to the mechanism of action of photoreception by rods and cones cells. Rods translate light into monochromic values,...

my five year old grandson fell over and hit his cheek whilst being treated in hospital they discovered his pulse rate was only 60 after an ecg they said he had an irregular heartbeat he has now been refered the next day his heartbeat had gone up to 79 another ecg still showed anirregularity he is very active and does not complain what are the possible causes

doctor1 MD

Hi...by what you quote I feel that your kid might be having a heart block. Mild increase in heart rate does not rule out this disorder. What he needs is a Holter or 24 hour ECG monitoring and an echo cardiogram. I suggest you consult a pediatric cardiologist regarding this.

I am 54, 185 lbs, 5'2". I exercise and am on Weight Watchers. Hav Mitral valve prolapse, Breast cancer survivor. I had my first ever abnormal ekg yesterday:
Possible ectopic atrial rhythm, possible anterior infarct, Inferior T wave changes are nonspecific, Low QRS voltages in precordial leads. I am terrified I am going to die soon. I did not understand the doctor yesterday, as I was in shock. Please tell me what this means. Stress test and echiocardigram tomorrow. Thanks, XXXXXXX

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The changes in your EKG are indicative of a heart problem but definitely does not mean that you are going to die.

Ectopic atrial rhythm means that there is a slight occasional irregularity in your heart rhythm. Possible anterior infarct means that the anterior...

While at office yesterday afternoon, had following new symptoms:
Rapid heart rate (>100), sharp pain in shoulders and lower neck, shoulders feeling hot, arms flush red, forehead flush red. Lasted about 30 min. Breathing okay (other than nasal congestion). No chest pain. A little anxious, not knowing what to do.
Have not had similar episode in last 20 hours.

Hi,

Thanks for the query,

There are many possibilities of the attack you encountered, let me discuss about this.

1.IT may be an attack of Myocardial infarction,
2.or an episode of PSVT or an attack of ventricular ectopics.
3.or it may be a simple panic attack mimicking to MI.
4.or it may be an...

Heart disease is high on my dad's side. He passed away when he was 38, my uncle was 46, my g-father was 55 and now my 1st cousin was only 31. None of them were overweight, or to my kowledge heavy smokers. All but my 1st cousin were forest rangers so physically fit to a point. I'm 38 and wondering what tests I should get done? I've had regular cholesterol tests ( all have been normal), BP is 120 /85, 2 ECG's both normal, two stress tests, also both normal. Is there anything else I can check? I am physically fit. 5'6", 170 pounds. Not extremely lean, but have a fair amount of muscle mass. My weight varies +/- 8 pounds over the course of a year, depending on activity. When I do add weight it is always on upper chest and abdomen. Never Smoked. Just detailing the physical aspect to give a better idea of myself. Are there any tests a cardiologist would definitely recommend?

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for your query.

You family history suggests higher familial incidence of heart diseases.

You also mentioned that they did not have any habits and were physically fit.

Heart disease comes under non communicable diseases, wherein multiple risk factors are involved in causing a...

I had a 24 hr heart monitor put on that returned 59 episodes of changes. I then went for a stress test/ekg that returned some changes, but not enough to cause alarm to the cardiologist. I go tomorrow for a stress test w/imaging and I'm petrified...should I be worried of a heart condition? I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis last year. Could it be indigestion related?

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Firstly, being a female itself decreases your risk of a heart disease. Estrogen, the female hormone is thought to play a protective role in the same.

If the stress EKG is not strongly positive, then the possibility of a heart disease is quite. The...

my friend recently had a c-section.Immediately after birth she went into cariac arrest and had no pulse. She was intubated by the anesthesiologist and a code was called. A defibrillator was brought in and she was shocked. After 3 shocks heart beat was reestablished. The birth was recorded at 11:44 A.M. and the first shock was at 12:07 P.M. She has been on life support ever since. Should the OR have been equipped with a defibrillator or an AED? Should the OB/GYN and the anes made sure an AED was in the OR and they were properly trained in its use?

doctor1 MD

Hi,

You have mentioned that your friend had cardiac arrest soon after the delivery of the child by C - section. And then, she was intubated by the anesthesiologist and code was called.

It is an usual norm that all OR should be equipped with AED and I also suppose that it is present in the OR you...

I had an ekg as part of my annual physical when my doctor compared the two he had me redo the ekg just to make sure that the reading was correct as well as the leads. The result of the second ekg was the same as the first one. The doctor had 3 prior years of ekg's to compare against this most recent one. I went for an echo cardigram two weeks ago but they did not have time for a consultation. I am scheduled for 5/11/11. Should I not be concerned since the Ultra sound tech seemed unconcerned and I have not heard from the Cardiologist. I called my PCP three times and they called the cardiologist three times two times it was not read one time it was read and not dictated never got an answer. What are your thoughts regarding this. Today I had took my blood pressure it was 90/70 with a heart rate of 104 Dr.had me on a half tablet of benicar but I took that at 7pm the prior evening. I also take topral 50mgs. in the evening my blood pressure was running at 140/80 or so prior to the benicar being added. I feel like I have to take a XXXXXXX breath every now and again because I need more oxygen. I'm just concerned about why know one would contact me about the echogram? Should I be concerned and if so what should I do?

doctor1 MD

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query.

I think there is no reason to worry. When your EKG was done,it is possible there could some changes in it which were inconclusive. At times it happens that on routine examination something is found and patient is not having any complain related to it.In...

doctor1 MD

Hi,

You have had symptoms of blackouts and amnesia with palpitations.
Your holter is having multiple findings which include multiple VPCs and prolonged OT.

Mulitple VPCs if they occur in succession or together, can precipitate serious cardiac arrhythmias.

Please send your Holter report to me.
I...

about 10 days ago at night i felt my heart almost popping out of my chest i felt really bad but it went away, then almost everyday i feel my hear rate increase even when i dont do much, when i take my xanax it goes away. i would like to know if i can return to the gym and do exercises and cardio like i always have 5 to 6 times a week.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Increase in heart rate and palpitation can be a expected symptom due to stress and I do consider the same as the probable cause in you .This is supported by the fact that Xanax helps.

I would advice you to go for relaxation exercises like Meditation or Yoga, which will...

Hello, I had an abnormal ECG-ST & T segment downsloping in 2-3 aVF, V4-V-6. The doctor said it looked worse than the one I had 6 monthes prior. So, I was sent for an Echo Stress test- Results: Excellent exercise capacity 13.9 METS- QRS pattern in lead V1-V-2. Approximately 1-1.5 further inferolateral ST depression over the resting abnormality. No arrhythmia. It stated Otherwise, normal echo. No indication of exercise induced ischemia, or septal infarction. I worry about this everyday. Should I have further testing, my cardiologist said to see him again in 2 years. F-49 yrs. Thank-you.
