Is BP Being Normal With Single Dosage Of Lisinopril Common?

my husband is 45 years old (6 2 and 223 lbs.) and was just prescribed high blood pressure medication (lisinopril) yesterday morning. He has only taken one pill and this morning his pressure is completely normal. Does the medicine work that quickly? If not, should he still be taking the medicine if his pressure is not elevated? I m worried that it will make it too low. Thank you.

Hi,

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It is to treat high blood pressure. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, which reduces the workload on the heart and lowers blood pressure.

Lisinopril can start working quickly and lower blood pressure after just one dose. However, it is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed by the doctor, even if the blood pressure is normal, as stopping the medication suddenly can cause blood pressure to spike again.

It is also important to monitor blood pressure regularly while taking lisinopril, especially in the first few weeks of treatment, to ensure that it is at a safe level. If the blood pressure drops too low, it can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and other symptoms. In such cases, it may be necessary to adjust the dosage or switch to a different medication.

It is recommended to consult with a doctor regarding any concerns about blood pressure or medication. They can provide personalized advice and help determine the best course of action.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
