Question: I was diagnosed with hypothyroidisminsulinima 20 yrs ago then the dr moved to the east coast from the west coast. He had me on 30 mg of Armour. During this past twenty I was told I have lupus then that dr left the area the one that replaced him said I did not have lupus I have Fibro. He put me on all kinds of meds pain pills were the most prevalent.i stopped taking and started acupuncture that helped could not afford to keep going.i started an gentle excercises class.I am very sensitive to meds.this past year I started going to a wellness clinic thet put me on, suppose to be a specialist in Fibro, thyroid, candida the dr said its all connected. In July of 2015 he Ran a blood test and said wow I am a mess didn't say why.He started me on nystatin 500,000 1@day day 2 ..1, day 3..2...day 4..2 then Armour 15 mg for a few days then 30 mg also estradiol 2 mg.continue progesterone 100 mg......ran blood test saw him then in August 31 2015.... Looked at my blood work then put me on a very stringent detox diet changed my meds.he rearranged my meds....progesterone 100 mg,Armour 60 mg,continue nystatin once a day.I followed the detox to a tea lost 18 lbs in 4 was then my next visit he said oh you are doing better I think I will try you on Hydrocortizone 1 to 3 tablets a day plus levothroxin 25 mg.I did take the levothroxin but not the Hydrocortizone 3...5 mg 3 times a day. I am very jittery my hair is falling out like never before. I have had a head of thick hair all my life. I am off balance and dizzy. I called the office of the doctor and asked the nurse if taking this levothroxin with the extreme detox make my hair fall out. His answer back to me was nothing I have done has caused my hair to fall out.....my primary dr here in my small town in Oregon up and left just weeks ago. So I went to the walk in clinic had them a tsh,t3 and t4 the results came back normal.I pray you will be able to help me with my question can I stop taking my thyroid and just eat healthy and keep my excercises. I have all my regular checkups every year.thank you for listening.

Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand what you have gone through and your concern.
Levothyroxine of 25ug is a small dose. Your thyroid function tests may be normal because you are on treatment. It is not advisable to stop it abruptly. If you have the Thyroid function test before starting the treatment, please upload the result and I would be able to give my opinion whether the Levothyroxine can be discontinued gradually.
Take care,

Welcome back.
There may be a problem with the upload and I don't see the result and hence have to bother you.
Please write the values of TSH, FT3 and FT4. If Thyroid antibodies were tested, the results with the lab normals.

TSH......2.08.......0.34-5.60 uIU. Free Thyroxine.....1.15......0.58-1.64ng/dl. Free T3.....2:7......2.5-3.9 pg/ml Dr XXXXXXX I need to share this also, I had a complete hysterectomy in 1987.... I was put on Premerin/Provera for 12 yrs then I found out it had horse urine so I found this well know health clinic in another town and got on BioIdentical pergesterone topical.I was on that for several years then I started having Vertigo pretty severe, stomach issues, not having a sense of well being, not being able to concentrate, chronic fatigue, and so I asked my Dr if she would run a thyroid to see if that was the problem these are the results she said it was fine. however she put me on 15 mg of Armour and in the meantime this other Dr came into the clinic specializing in Fibro, chronic fatigue, thyroid and the rest is history. he put me through all these hormones,4 wks of extreme detox and then all the meds I listed in my first report. my question is what to do now the levothroxin and the steroid.I am not feeling good I am terribly off balance my stomach is a mess.I pray you can give me some words of wisdom.I have not taken a lot of drugs.Do I get off thyroid take Armour instead and focus on Fibro.I understand it all goes together.Thank you for your time Dr XXXXXXX I pray you can help me.

Brief Answer:
Levothyroxine can be stopped

Detailed Answer:
I am glad to note that your thyroid functions were absolutely normal when you were started on Armour. In my opinion and as per the evidence available, you don't require Levothyroxine and it can be stopped. Reduce the dose to 12.5 ug for a few days and then stop.
You should learn to relax, learn yoga or meditation if you can, eat wholesome food, exercise at least 30 minutes a day. If you have not had your vitamin D level tested, it may be good to have it tested. you may require a supplement if you find it to be low.
Do get back to me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health and a great day.
