Is It Normal For A Septuagenarian To Have Very Slight Pinkish Discharge, Uterine Examination Came Clear?

I am a 70 year old female who has noticed a very slight pinkish vaginal discharge a time or two - barely noticeable on the toilet paper. I recently had my physical and my Dr, he did a palpating exam of the uterus and fallopian tubes and said no abnormalties there. He said I probably did not need a PAP test at my age. Is this discharge anything to be concerned about?

Hi.
Welcome to HCM.
Postmenopausal spotting/bleeding, whatever may be the quantity, needs evaluation. Though its most likely due to atrophy of local area due to lack of estrogen, its always better to get evaluation done with at least speculum examination & one transvaginal scan if possible.
Hope this helps you.
Wish you good health.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

You are in post menopausal age group (70 yrs) and in this age group, spotting should be evaluated thoroughly.

we have to rule out possible causes of bleeding or spotting in current context once again. These are as follows:
1) Endometrial atrophy (thinned out)
2) Endometrial hyperplasia (previously you have)
3) Endometrial cancer (uterine cancer)-more risk in postmenopausal bleeding.
4) Others- polyp, infection, adenomyosis, certain medication etc.

Complete physical examination including pelvic/speculum exam and colposcopy if indicated, is needed to rule out underlying pathology.

Possibilities can be narrowed by several investigations like blood test for thyroid profile & clotting factor abnormality, Trans Vaginal Sonography (TVS) scan, Pap smear test to detect cancerous changes and endometrial biopsy (which may be needed).

Hope this helps you.

Regards
