Hi dr. Im 45 y/o. Had spotting for 1 month and then heavy bleeding for 10 days then it stopped for 2 days then bled again then stopped for 1 day and then on again. My GP prescribed me primolut which ive been taking, 5 mg tid (its my 8th day now). The bleeding has completely stopped for now (i know im gonna bleed again within 2-4 days after the last dose). I had an ultrasound done which showed endometrial hyperplasia (19 mm). I am currently overseas and im planning to see my obgyne back home in april (because thats the only time when ill be free). It says in the leaflet of primolut, to prevent recurrent DYsfunctional uterine bleeding, primolut can be taken. Can i still take primolut until such time that i see my obgyne in april? Thanks very much

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I am trying to solve your problem.

According to your ultrasound report (USG), you have diagnosed endometrial hyperplasia (19 mm) with association of endometriosis of ovary or PID. These are causing irregular spotting to heavy bleeding in concurrent cycle and may...

I am 49 years old and not yet menopausal. I had an ultrasound scan 2 weeks ago which showed uterine thickness of 20mm and what the sonographer thought looked like a gestational sac in the uterus. I've since been ruled out for pregnancy after urine and blood tests were negative but I'm mainly worried about the uterine thickness as I've read on the internet that 20mm is very thick. My last period was 6 weeks ago and lasted 2 weeks, although only a couple of days heavy, which is why I was referred for a scan in the first place. I have just started to spot now, think my period might be on its way as I have dull aches in my abdomen. Haven't bleed at all for the past 4 weeks though. Should I be worried about this thickness. My GP is referring me to see a specialist but it could take ages to get an appointment. In the meantime I am worried. My GP could tell me absolutely nothing and didn't even seem to understand the report! Also what else could what looks like a gestational sac be if not that?

Brief Answer:
ENDOMETRIAL HYPERPLASIA ( CYSTIC ) SEEMS LIKELY

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query.
Pregnancy has been ruled out in your case definitely by urine and blood tests, so that is out of the way.
An endometrial thickness of 20 mm is most definitely worrisome, especially at your...

Asa! dear dr. i was suffering from heavy bleeding and my dr. recommended me primlute-n for 25 days and than with the gap of 7 days,2 days & again 7 days......my first course of 25 days is almost complete.
Secondly my recent TVS report conclude Poly cystic ovaries, Endometrial Hyperplasia & endometrial polyps. Kindly let me know at what time to do.
Regard,
Fizza.

doctor1 MD

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Fizza, given that you are being seen for abnormal bleeding, and there is concern about thickening of the lining of the uterus related to polyps, then it only makes sense to have the polyps removed. Treatment with medication is not going to...

I gave myself gastritis from overuse of NSAIDS. At the same time, I was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. Just had the biopsy today. Could the NSAIDS or the gastritis have caused the endometrial hyperplasia? I'm 54 years old and post menopausal.

doctor1 MD

Dear Madam,

Well in my opinion it seems there is no link between the two , they can both be to different things.

Hi, I am healthy, active 53 year old. My OBGYN did a biopsy last year because during my annual exam I had blood (end of period) everything was fine. I had an annual this year and mentioned that I had a period again after not having one for 8 months. He had me do a trans vaginal ultrasound. Everything came out normal except Borderline prominent endometrial strip of 5mm, no focal endometrial abnormality, mild endometrial hyperplasia They want me to do another Biopsy. The report said consider another ultrasound in 4 months. I take bioidentical hormone cream 1X a day and have no other health issues. Is another biopsy necessary I would prefer not to do that again.
