What Does This Blood Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Aug 2017
Question: I recently had my yearly lab work, and my TSH was 5.4, normal T4 (.95), and high serum glucose (101). My doctor placed me on Synthroid, 25mcg, to start. My question is, do I have hypothyroidism, or early stages of diabetes? I read weight gain is a symptom of hypothyroidism, and being I weigh only 88 lbs., weight isn't an issue as far as diabetes is concerned. Thank you for your reply.

Brief Answer:
You have subclinical hypothyroidism and prediabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your question and understood your concern.

Your TSH level is slightly upper the normal range and it is suggestive of subclinical hypothyroidism.
Weight gain is a symptom of hypothyroidism but you have no reason to worry because the levothyroxine will help you to feel better and lose weight if you want to lose weight.

Your blood glucose test result is high, don't worry but it is not normal.
If tjis is a fasting sugar blood test result this means prediabetes.
Anyway another fasting test or a A1c test is necessary for the confirmation of the diagnosis.

Hope this is helpful.
If you have other questions feel free and ask.
Regards
