Brief Answer:
Might have prescribed for other risk factors

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend, greetings from HCM , I understand your problem. Your thyroid profile and all the other reports suggest that you don't require metformin now .
But metformin is some time also prescribed for those who are overweight and have very strong family history of diabetes and heart disease.
Metformin is also advised for insulin resistance due to PCOD, and hypertriacylglycerolemia.
Verify if you have any of these risk factors.

Get your HbA1c, lipid profile and microalbuminuria done and contact us. metformin is safe and could help in preventing your future complications too.

Might not be a bad idea to start even if sugar level s are low but any of the above risks are there.

Do feel free to ask me if you have any other questions .
Thank you.

Doctor has me to come for review after 15 days, and continue taking 137.5 of thyroxine, and metformin 500 during these 15 days.
Will I have to continue metformin even after that?

Brief Answer:
Lifestyle changes are sufficient at this stage.

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend, welcome back. please re-check your HbA1c, FBS and post-prondial glucose. if you are not obese, no PCOD, for FPG 95 , you need not take any medications. I do not advice not even metformin. But lifestyle changes are necessary.
First stay away from all the fast / processed and fried food stuff. Divide your meal in to 4-5 parts per day whenever you feel hungry. With 2/3 snacks in between. That helps to keep the sugar levels constant throughout the day. Add more of fiber rich food stuffs like green leafy vegetables, raw fruits (not juices), take very less of carbohydrates (rice) avoid sugar completely. Take Millets in boiled form or the breads prepared out of it like ragi, bajra, sorghum, wheat etc., are very good source of micronutrients required for the action of insulin. Take more of protein rich food, like egg white, fish is good source of omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. Moreover, beetroot juice (inorganic nitrate), olive leaves, garlic, turmeric, tamarind also have proven benefits. Say no to oils and cholesterol rich food stuffs. Based on this, with the help of a dietician, you prepare your diet chart and strictly follow it.
Physical activity is very important, play games, walk at least half an hour to one hour a day. This not only helps you to burn calories, but also to relive your stress. Music is another way to relax too. Try and practice yoga, meditation and pranayama. Some aasanas are very easy to practice and also beneficial. Quit smoking (if) and reduce your alcohol intake.
If u can follow these (have to!!) you can definitely see difference yourself by the time you have your next blood investigation report in three months time
Wish you good health. Do feel free to ask more queries. THANK YOU
