Went to my doctor last week and voiced my concerns to her and she did a hiv test sent me to the lab. The results came back negative, But I have a red circle on the tip of my nose and looked on line said KS. I have small red dots on my body looks like petechia. I think I have aids?

Also exposure would have been 6 years ago.

Brief Answer:
negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

HIV tests can detect either some aspect of the virus itself or antibodies that are formed when the body reacts to the HIV virus.

Each test has a window period, this is the time between infection and when a test can reliably detect that infection.

The window period for the rapid test is 2 to 8 weeks, at maximum 3 months.
This means that after 3 months XXXXXXX this test can determine if a person is infected with the HIV virus.

The test would be able to pick up the antibodies that are formed in anyone with this virus.

At 6 yrs with no treatment especially, your body would be flooded with the HIV virus and its antibodies. Any test would be able to detect it

A negative result is just that, negative. You are not infected with HIV and do not have AIDS.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
wold be still present

Detailed Answer:
HI

No, this is not true. HIV can progress to AIDS but remember that it is the HIV virus causes both HIV infection and AIDS.

The virus would be present. In persons with long term infections, blood work is done periodically to detect the levels of HIV and its antibodies.
It is always present and in AIDS, it would be present in high numbers because it is suppressing the immune system.

Antibodies are formed when the body reacts to anything it perceives are abnormal such as HIV

The red circle has the appearance of a small fungal infection from the pic but your doc would be able to take a closer look to confirm
IF this the case, it would be treated by a topical anti fungal such as nizoral, canesten, econazole, miconazole

I also have white spots on my tongue every morning when I wake up, I do sleep with my mouth open. After I brush it goes away and I do have geographic tongue since I was little. Also my lymph keep going down in October they were 29 now 16.5 per lab report overall she said 1.7 what ever that means. My cbc was normal and slight anemia. Also low in potassium and I told you I have petechia as well. I'm not on any medication either.Looking online I saw post of people who actually had aids and hiv test had showed negative because there immune system was so suppressed it didn't show the hiv antibody anymore? That has me freaked out bad.

Brief Answer:
if not convinced, do an HIV virus test

Detailed Answer:
HI

The fact that the rash in your mouth resolves with brushing also makes the diagnosis of HIV or AIDS unlikely.
With no immune system, if oral candidiasis is present, it spreads to the esophagus. There is no immune system to restrict its growth

I have seen patients with AIDS and since they have no immune system, they present in severe infections of the brain, lungs , gastrointestinal tract, kidney failure etc.
You would not have mild AIDS symptoms- you have symptoms of severe infections.

HIV does have an effect on the immune system but it is not diagnosed based on the different types of white cell count

If you are concerned regarding the antibody test the you can do other types of HIV testing , you can test for the virus itself

So if those patients you mentioned with all those infections did a hiv test it would show positive at the stage they are in?
doctor

Brief Answer:
yes their tests were positive

Detailed Answer:
HI

Yes, the tests were positive. They also had very obvious indicators of hiv/253657?iL=true" >AIDS, very, very, very unwell

As mentioned, if you are not convinced about your result, you can consider the other types of HIV tests.
I am comfortable with it but in the end it is important for you to be totally convinced.

Doctor what about the petechia im having?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (10 hours later)
Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the late reply

Petechia can be related to different possible causes, yes infection is one of them but there are other causes as well.
They include: injury to the area, allergic reaction, side effect of medication, autoimmune disorders causing vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels), blood disorders.
Benign viral infections such as the cold or flu can also result in petechia.

The fact that your platelet count in the complete blood count is normal makes blood disorder unlikely but if you want to be sure you can have other clotting factors checked.
ESR is a non specific inflammatory marker. It goes up if there is any evidence of inflammation in the body (due to infection, trauma, cancer, autoimmune disorders). This can be done to check for any autoimmune issues if your doctor confirms the petechia
