What Causes Recurring Sneezing,cold And Red Eyes In A Child?

Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: Hi doctor,
My son is 1.5 years old. Once in a while, he gets continuous sneezing, with his eyes turning red and itchy and cold all of a sudden. Signs of allergy.. Not sure what is the reason? Having visited a paediatrician, he was prescribed monticope syrup. If taken, it does reduce. However, it shows up after a week or two again..kindly suggest what to do and how to figure out the route cause of the allergy ...

Brief Answer:
it will get better as he grows

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thanks for detailed history,
Don't worry for now ,what comes to my mind is he has no major issues keep continuing with same drug it will help.

Keep hygienic environment around him.

He will get better as he grows,
Due to low immunity in children generally this problem occurs frequently

Thanks a lot Doctor.

He gets a pimple kind of thing every now and then on his hand or face.
We also got a blood test done just to make sure if everything was alright.

His blood report shows:
Total leucocyte count is also within the normal range.

Neutrophoils -> 36% (Normal being 40-75%)
Lymphocytes -> 60%(normal bein 20-45%)

His RBC count is within the range as I saw

But, the lymphocytes count being high, is it something that I should be concerned about? Or, am I overthinking too much here:(

Brief Answer:
relative lymphocytosis propably

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Happy to see your concern towards health,

allergic symptoms as you mentioned can occur due to common cold viral infection,
It well get better as he grows and his immunity gets better,need not worry,

Need not worry,in children below 2 yr lymphocyte count is usually high more than 40% in wbc count,
,as u mentioned his
Total leucocyte count is normal,so
I think its relative lymphocytosis ,

Keep continuing with monticope syrup its effective,

Keep receiving all the vaccination at time according to schedule,

If he has symptoms like breathlessness,whezzing,fever,chills,
Recurrent blocked nose then visit a pediatrician and get symptoms evaluated.

Hope this information helps,
Wish him a good health,
And healthy future ahead.
