Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.

Thanks for the query.

These are nonspecific symptoms, but are systemic and some diseases should be considered. I think that you need to see rheumatologist/immunologist for further evaluation since these signs may indicate autoimmune systemic disorders. Also, some hormonal changes such as thyroid or steroid hormonal imbalance may be cause of it as well.

Wish you good health.

I went to a weight loss program in which I have gained 22 pounds since September...I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. My family doctor took a blood test and said my thyroid was normal. I am always freezing at night, dry brittle hair and tired all the time, the weight gain, and all the symptoms I told you earlier, but my family doctor still says that my thyroid is normal. I have read online that these blood tests can come back normal sometimes.

The weight loss lab ZRT also took saliva tests for a day and 9 blood dry blood tests. They found out I have low progesterone so I am taking a specially formulated cream on my forearms every night to maybe stop my weight gain. I crave sugar, especially chocolate all the time.

Sometimes I will eat a full meal and still be hungry. I was in the hospital 8 years ago and they found out I have depression...I take 200 mg of Zoloft each day, 400 mg of Lamictal as a mood stabilizer, 2g of lorazapam 3 times a day, ambien, I also have speep apnea and Geodon for paranoia -180 mg.

I also had neck surgery last year on May 30th on C5 and C6...I fell and had 2 herniated disks and one bone spur going into my spinal nerve. The did a fusion and put 2 pieces of bone between my vertebrae with a plate and 3 bolts.

I was on Tramadol for a year before my surgery and took 6 per day. After my surgery I built up a tolerance to them and took up to 10 a day. I was addicted. I went off of them cold turkey and have been clean of them since December 27th. I also went through some severe withdrawl symptoms.

I also got what I thought 6 sinus infections in a row since September because of my face swelling, eyes puffy and bad headaches. They put me on 875mg of Augmentin 2x a day for 10 days each time. I know I didn't want to keep going on antibiotics and could build up a tolerance to them.I finally went to an ENT specialist and found out with a CT scan my sinuses are fine. Then I went to an allergist and found out. I am allergic to cats, dogs and rabbits. I got rid of the cats but still have the symptoms. I also found that the antibiotics helped with my symptoms when I thought I was having a sinus infection.

I am just trying to give you all my background. I also found out I was allergic to wheat two years ago. So my body is becoming allergic to more and more things as I am getting older. The allergist also suggested going to a rhum. doctor as well. What can he do for m?. I have osteo arthritis in my shoulders and hands but not rhum. arthritis. What kind of autoimmune disease could I have with my symptoms? Also my diet specialist put me on adrenal support meds, thryroid meds, adrenal glycemic meds, D3 with K2 since my D3 was only at a 35. With all this background what can a rhum. doctor tell me or an immune specialist?

Brief Answer:
some disorders may be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There is a whole spectrum of autoimmune diseases and it may be difficult to rule all these out. but in your case there may be combination of allergies, hormonal imbalance and autoimmune disorders. There are more common like RA, lupus, myositis, fibromialgia, thyroiditis XXXXXXX disease and some less common which are not easily diagnosed. Some lab tests for all these can be done only in specialized centres. rheumatoid factor XXXXXXX or antidna should be checked, but even if these are negative,it still doesnt mean that there is no autoimmune disease. Sinus inflammation is possible cause of all your symptoms since it leads to headache neck pain, face swelling and even systemic symptoms such as stomach cramps, fever or fatigue. long antibiotic use isnt recommendable since it may cause resistance. in your case, low dose steroid therapy may have effect if exact diagnosis cant be found.

Wish you good health.regards

after your recommendations and studying and taking quizzes on the internet all afternoon I have come up with the following: I think I have low progesterone from high stress levels in my life and lack of exercise. I also think I have allergic rhinitis causing some inflammation in my face...cat dander still in the house, dust, etc. I also strongly believe I have Hashimotos thyroiditis ...I have every symptom on the list. I know I will need to see an Endocronologist for this. I also agree with you that my puffy eyes and face are also from my sinuses. I might not have an infection but Ii have a puffy face, puffy eyes, headache and neckache and this happens every day. I do have chronic sinusitis. What low dose steroid do you recommend? Also how would they treat my thyroid disease? My vision is also getting worse rapidly and I have white patches of skin on my right arm and I got rosacea in the last year. All these things are happening to me and nobody else in my family has any of these...do you think I have an auto immune disease too or is Hashimotos thyroiditis considered one?? Thanks for all of your help!!

Brief Answer:
it can be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

All autoimmune are related and may occur synchronously in people who are genetically predominated for it. It can be aggravated or trigerred by somme external factors such as stress, infection or innapropriate diet. Your symptoms indicate some systemic autoimmune disease or combination of several of them such as thyrodiitis, dermatomiositis or SLE.

Sometimes, if exact cause cant be found, some immunologists start with low dose of steroids or even some more aggressive antiinflammatory medications such as azatiophrin. hashimoto is treated by correction of hormonal levels.

Wish you good health.
