Brief Answer: AS BELOW Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. Have you ever had irregular cycles before ? What is the normal pattern of your cycles ? Please let me know this. Other than pregnancy which is the commonest cause ( hope you have taken a reliable pregnancy test ), there can be other reasons for a delayed / missed period. Some common conditions include - stress, anxiety, weight gain or weight loss, unaccustomed exercise, late nights, erratic eating habits, smoking, drinking, drugs , hormonal medications such as emergency contraceptives, unresearched herbal / ayurvedic remedies, change in climate or weather or altitude etc. Do any of these apply to you ? Other than these , the commonest reasons are either PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome ) or hypothyroidism or endometrial hyperplasia. All these are due to hormonal imbalances. Transient mild hormonal imbalance can be corrected by inducing withdrawal bleeding with progesterone treatment. Taking 5 days of drugs like Meprate, Primolut N , Deviry etc 10 mg twice a day will result in a period within 7 days of stopping the medication generally. Prior to that, ideally a full gynaecological workup should be conducted. THis would include a proper internal evaluation ( per vaginum and per speculum ) and a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan. ALso, hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid profile. This should reveal a diagnosis. All the best. Please feel free to discuss further.
