Questions and answers on "Testosterone"

I have been told by my doctor that I have high testosterone. I'm a 32 year old female. I also have bad skin and am on medication for it. I did not have bad skin until a couple of years ago. Is this from my testosterone level? Also, I heard that when you're pregnant you hair does not fall out. I'm pregnant and my hair is still falling out? is this due to testosterone?

doctor1 MD

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

My testosterone was 148. Could that be what is causing my ADD and Sexual anhedonia? If so, how do treat it.

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Almost certainly your testosterone has no relation to history of ADD in your childhood.
Sexual anhedonia ? Yes. Your testosterone levels are the driving force for your libido, and in adult male a low libido usually qualifies for testing for Total Serum Testosterone.

Hello
My name is XXXXX. I'd like to ask one question regarding testosterone in fetal/baby stage of life for boys.

In addition to its effects on gonad development and brain in baby boys, does testosterone, before conversion to estrogen, also affect other sites like pituitary gland?

Does it essentially act on every area of body that has androgen receptors?

Many thanks. Wishing you all the best.

doctor1 MD

Hi
Thanks for writing to XXXXXXX
Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone are believed to exert their androgenic effects by interacting with a single intracellular receptor protein in androgen target tissues. During fetal life, however, testosterone mediates the virilization of the Wolffian ducts...

hello, I am currently seeing an endocrinologist due to low testosterone. I am prescribed .50ml/mg of testosterone cypinate 200ml. once a week. My esridiol levels are very high, yet the doctor will not concentrate on this issue, nor will he put me on Arimidex for gynogmastia. My hemoglobin levels were .1 over the normal range, therefore the dr. dropped me to .30mg/ml a week, which is unacceptable. I've been told by a dr. friend to donate blood and that will lower the hemoglobin levels. Any suggestions to get my dr. on the same page and try to balance my testosterone levels to estrogen? Should I find a endocrinologist dr. that specifically deals with men's issue? thank you

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Yes, I would have thought you could respond to a drug like Letroz or Arimidex considering that your esradiol levels are high, but if your endocrinologist says he does not prefer it, there might be a reason which would be difficult for me to opne as he has the benefit of clinical examination....

Every day when I have a bowel movement, there is distinguishable food that hasn t been digested properly and is often very loose. I have consulted my paediatrician about the stomach aches and blood in my stool, but not about the undigested food. He says it isn t anything to worry about, but I m not sure if this information changes that. What is wrong with me?
