default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2015
Question: Hello, I have been experiencing these times red bumps on my feet and now they are on my legs. It is happening usually around menses. I first noticed it in November 2014. I did begin taking Progesterone and Armour back then. Could it be a side effect or an automimmune response? Any treatment suggested?

Brief Answer:
No doesnt seem related to your medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem i would like to tell you that it looks like purpuric rash , seems less likely to be drug related or insect bite as it comes around your menses so it follows a cyclical pattern . There is a possibility that it could be autoimmune also . If you have got your blood tests done earlier please send that to me . Also most important ones would be ANA , Platelet count , ESR . Please send all these , also tell if you have any history of oral ulceration, spontaneous miscarriages , photosensitvity , raynauds phenomenon .We will need to rule out Lupus also.

Take care.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

I am attaching my recent test results, I'm not seeing any results for ANA or ESR. I am having a partial/possible total thyroidectomy next Friday, October 9th due to enlarged thyroid nodule that is growing under my collar bone. Could this be caused by low ferritin, Vit D and B12 deficiency? I keep seeing the dreaded "L" word everywhere, and I really hope I do not have Lupus.

Brief Answer:
Your platelets are fine.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Well your platelets are fine so the rashes are not due to low platelets . No it cannot be due to low ferritin , vitamin D or B12 . I think you should get ANA done to rule out lupus as such funny rashes can occur in that disease . You didnt mention that history that I had asked , all these events are related to lupus so thats why I had asked you .

Okay thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

Happy to know my platelets are at good levels. I will bring this to my doctor's attention again of the purpuric rash and ask for ANA testing, although I will most likely not get this test prior to my surgery.

My husband and I have a daughter, she is 10 and we unfortunately have not been able to conceive again. If I have had spontaneous miscarriages, they would have been early as I have not had positive pregnancy tests. No identified diagnosis of Raynards phenomena, I do have some cold fingers and toes, but never to the point of turning white. Photosensitivity, I would say no, as I do well in the sun. The occasional sun burn, but nothing that is problematic. Going back to B12 deficiency, I did have the MTHFR Mutation done and both parents have the 1298c mutation. Is Lupus and Thyroid Disease related?

Thank you! XXXXXXX

Dear Sir,

Thank you reverting back.

Well still I would suggest you to get ANA done .Yes autoimmune thyroiditis and Lupus are related, these patients have anti TPO antibodies positive .
