Question: I've Had stomach pain below the belly button and on the upper left side and i've had gas and some nausea for the past month .I haven't had my period for the past four months. I had blood work done and my white and red blood cell count was a little low and my progesterone levels were a little out of whack. My gynecologist said I was probably in perimenopause and my internist put me on some antibiotics in case I had a stomach or bowel infection. But I'm nervous now because my internist did bloodwork yesterday to retest the levels of the white and red blood cells and the hormone levels and she wants me to come and see her in the office discuss the bloodwork which came in already when they said it would take a week.

Brief Answer:
Wait and watch for reports / More investigations for abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Noted your history of pain below the belly button on upper left side - gas and nausea for 1 month - 4 months amenorrhea - RBC and WBC a bit low - Gynecologist thinking of peri-menopause - Internist put you on antibiotic - Nervous for the blood test for a reason for suspicion of why they would take a week when they have already came in.

The nervousness at the age of 44 is understood, this is a bit early age to have peri-menopause unless there was a history of such an occurrence in your Mother.

It is possible that some of the hormone tests may take more time to come or the another possibility is about the internist might have sent some other tests too.
But why to worry unnecessarily.
I would advise you to concentrate on finding the reasons for pain in abdomen as it is there for 1 month.
Please go for investigations related to the pain in abdomen also.
- Tests of stool for 3 different days.
- Ultrasonography of the abdomen and Ct scan if required.
- X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
- Upper GI or Lower GI endoscopy as may be needed.
- Take probiotics, activated charcoal tablets, PPI or Ranitidine along with the antibiotics your Internist has advised.
- Wait patiently for the reports, there is nothing to rush through, there may not be. Plan for further treatment as per the reports and clinical evaluation by a Doctor.

I hope this answer helps you to have a proper diagnosis and treatment.

WBC was 3.1 and rbc was 3.63 I had a pelvic sono and it was normal. She didn't want to send me for a CAT scan because I've had a lot in the past and the radiation is not good. I was concerned because she usually calls me on the phone to give me results instead of having me come to the office. She did a cbcd and hormone blood test.

Brief Answer:
Please let me know the reports.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it is very true that extra radiation has to be avoided.
The WBC of 3.1 is definitely below the normal range and the commonest causes are flu, some Enteric infections. Occasionally bone marrow suppression (not depression) can occur.
RBC of 3.63 is also marginally low and may be due to iron deficiency and the factors associated with it. I am sure the Internist must have taken care to find out the reasons. If they do not improve, plan can be be done to have consultation with a Hematologist (if required).
I do agree with you about the anxiety if you get a call to visit when the previous reports wee discussed on phone.
Do not worry.

Brief Answer:
No need to be concerned and drink plenty of water

Detailed Answer:
Not really to be concerned for taking 3 tablets of Cipro. Drink plenty of oral fluids to keep the urinary system flushed. Continue the further dosages properly.
You may also take a PPI like Pantoprazole or simply Ranitidine.
