Brief Answer:
Shingles might be suspected, please consult your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
From the description of your problem, it is understood that you are having an area on your body skin surface that has become sensitive recently and also painful. However it is responding to ibuprofen 600 mg and is reappearing after a few hours. It will help to know which areas of your body are affected by this symptom.

A diagnosis of shingles might be one of the possibilities. Considering your age and the nature of hypersensitive skin and ?burning pain, shingles is one of the conditions that needs to be suspected. It will help to consult your doctor and get a complete clinical examination done.

In my experience, though rashes along the skin supplied by a group of nerves in the face or abdomen are the most confirmatory features of shingles, there are times when patients have symptoms such as sensitive skin and burning pain days to weeks before the appearance of rashes.

However, without clinical examination, it is difficult to make the exact diagnosis and my opinion is based on your query details. Confirming your health condition with a hospital visit is important.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek

Brief Answer:
A severe pain persisting longer than 3 days requires medical attention

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I have noted your symptoms in detail.
Shingles is a condition in which the rashes might be preceded by symptoms of acute nature including severe debilitating pain involving the head and neck and lower back region. This pain is a burning type and the skin becomes highly sensitive.

Shingles in most commonly seen in the 55 to 75 years age group and the symptoms which are of a sudden acute onset, might be difficult to predict in the beginning. I am not confirming shingles until there is a rash breakout. However it is important to know that treatment for the control of shingles must be started within 72 hours from the first appearance of rash. Therefore I would like to request you to keep a close watch on the skin on the painful and sensitive areas.

Since there is severe pain, I would certainly like you to get clinically examined by your local doctor. Taking ibuprofen for the pain in recommended doses is justified but the cause also requires to be investigated in you are having the symptoms for 3 days or more. Other acute causes, likely infective, need to be ruled out.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

It looks like you have got multiple infections and that is the reason for your severe pains not responding to medication. I do hope you recover quickly.

Though I have not been able to help you much due to the non specific symptoms that you have and my inability to clinically examine you, but nice to know that you sought medical attention from the va on time.

Most likely you should recover in a week or two. Please take support from family and friends to help you out with the illness, medication and recovery. You need rest and healthy food. Please take lots of fresh juices and water to avoid dehydration.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

Dr.Vivek
