Brief Answer:
Symptomwise Approach

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following is/are recommended guidelines.

A.

i. If dizziness is not promptly controlled, ask for Hb%, X-ray Cervical spine (AP & Lateral), ENT and Ophthalmic check up.

ii. If dizziness/light headedness is associated with any Neurological sign, seek an opinion of Neurologist.

iii. In old age, cervical spondilitis is one of the commonest cause.

iv. One has to exclude the cause of dizziness through systemic examination and investigation (if any), like:

. Vestibular cause (inner ear) like Menier's disease, BPPV.
. Nervous System disorder
. Cardiac Problem (since heart rate is low) like low or high blood pressure, heart block, sick sinus syndrome
. Thyroid Problem (low thyroid)
. Low Blood Sugar
. Anxiety Attacks
. Poor,unbalanced nutrition
. Any drug-drug interaction

B. Do revert back with your clarifications since Drug Managment can only be told after the above causes has be thoroughly verified, till then:

. Avoid sudden movements of the head.
. Stop Smoking & Alcohol
. Eat fresh Pineapple frequently
. Avoid saturated fats, processed food, sugar/salt,coffee,tea,refined alcohol
. Have food rich in Vitamin A-B-E-Zinc and Choline
. Chewing dry fruits enhance the blood circulation

C. Since I personally don't know any Ayurveda Physician near your home town you can search in the "Doctor section" under HCM where you may find what you are looking for.

Dr. Sood,
Thanks for your comments. Happy New Year 2016
I will go for Hb%, X-ray Cervical spine (AP & Laaternal ENT and Ophthalmic check-up as you recommended.
I think I have bradycardia symptoms because my heart rate has been dropping from 55/min to 45/min for the past two years. Beside I have lightheadedness and dizziness, I some time have blurred vision. Could the symptoms are caused by my blood can not get up to my brain?
My blood sugar fasting is 78-92, and 2-4 hours after foods is 117, and my A1C has been 5.7. My blood pressure has been 127/76, heart rate is 45 at night and 50 during the day. In addition, I am working full time as an electronic engineer. I need to work part time and slow down.
Any comments are greatly appreciated. Any thought?
Thanks, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Symptomatic Bradycardia

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back and best wishes of 2016 to you too and going by your follow up question one can infer (not conclude) the following:

1. Bradycardia with occasional blurring of vision and light headedness/dizziness should be evaluated on following parametres:

a. Neurological examination: CT-Head to exclude High Intracranial Pressure.

b. Cardiologist Evaluation: Electrokardiogram and further tests to exclude CAD (Coronary Artery Disease or Occlusion of any Coronary Artery)

Dr. Sood,
Thanks for the following suggestions.
a. Neurological examination: CT-Head to exclude High Intracranial Pressure.
b. Cardiologist Evaluation: Electrokardiogram and further tests to exclude CAD (Coronary Artery Disease or Occlusion of any Coronary Artery)
My Mom had the same symptoms and can not get out of bed since she was 45. She passed away at 96. I have her genes and symptoms. I am doing much better than she does. I have the symptoms at 78 and she was at 45.
A year ago, my heart rate was 55 and have no symptoms. Symptoms come recently when heart rate drop down to 45.
If I clear items a and b above, I understand conventional treatment is to implant a pacemaker to speed up the heart rate. I have been googling online looking for alternative treatments.
1. Ayurvedic herb: take Ashwargandha and Arjuna to strengthen heart muscle.
2. Chinese herb: take Shen Song XXXXXXX Xin Jiao Nang to increase heart rate.
What is you opinions on items 1 and 2 and pacemaker for long term solution.
I would very much to know your opinion on their advantages and disadvantages.
Thanks for the help. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Further clarifications

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1. Yes, the above said drugs can only be taken if previous mentioned causes has been excluded by appropriate examination and investigation(s)

2. Arjunarishta is a good Cardiotonic and improves the strength of heart muscles and if possible search for "Parthyadyarishta" which contains bark of Arjuna.

PS. In a study amongst patient with heart problems, significant improvement in Ledt Ventricular ejection fraction and reduction in Left Ventricular mass was documented and patients with Ischaemic cardiomyopathy showed significant symptomatic relief in coronary heart failure from NYHA Class III to NYHA Class I XXXXXXX Heart Journal: 1997:49 (5):507-510

3. Ashwagandharishta is the best adaptogenic and Immumomodulation herb and is a good anti oxidant.

PS. while Arjuna acts on the heart and Ashwagandha acts on the mind thus the said combination is very useful in Psychosomatic problems.

4. Always take both the liquid after meals since taking them empty stomach may cause gastrc irritation. ( as they contain fermented medicated alcohol)

5. Both the preparation are free of side effects as long as taken under medical supervision.
PS. Since I am not a practitioner of TCM thus you have to specifically find someone of this field and regarding Pacemaker your attending Cardiologist will do the needful.

Dr. MumishSood,
I promised I will get back to you.
After checked with my doctor regarding my heart conditions, He did an EKG and found my heart completely normal.
Here is what I know
2014 my heart rate was 55bit/min and feel great, A lots of energy.
2015 my heart rate went down slowly to 50bit/min and feeling dizziness and light headedness, plus blurred vision, no energy. My doctor checked me for fasting blood sugar (85) and blood sugar 2 hours after eating (117), all normal. He also checked for Adrenal Exhaustion and is negative. He thinks I have Bradycardia, Bradycardia will cause all the symptoms I have because my blood can notget up to my brain when I am standing up (no symptoms when sitting down).
Today 2016, my heart rate is up 65-70 bits/min for no reasons, and my blood pressure is 125/75. EKG completely normal (EKG was done today 1/13/16). At 65-70 bits/min and still have same dizziness symptoms, Can I rule out heart rate issue?
Questions why my heart rate went up automatically in 2016 from 50bit/min to 70 bits/min, EKG shows completely normal?
May I rule out the causes ofmy symptoms are due to glucose, low blood sugar, heart rate and adrenal exhaustion.
Any idea to fix my dizziness and light headedness and blurred vision. Has DHEA hormone to do with it?
Thanks for your insight.
Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Sinus Bradycardia

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back with your follow up and following is/are next possible guidelines:

1. Since opinion of Cardiologist has excluded any heart disease thus one has to exclude other causes of bradycardia (increased intracranial tension, vasovagal attacks, administration of drugs like propranolol and digitalis)

2. As suggested earlier you should then go for investigations like Hb%, Cervical X-ray etc.

3. Since Adrenal exhaustion is excluded thus DHEA hormone can't be the culprit since if there is Adrenal Fatigue then DHEA will also be low and thus causing dizziness.

PS. second opinion is always welcome

4. If all investigations come normal then it could be AUTONOMIC DYSFUNCTION (old age hypotension) where you will require medicines like Ashwagandha, Yashtimadhu (Licorice root), Arjuna, Vitamin B-C-E.

5. Changing of heart rate from 50 to 70 (in absence of any heart problem) could be due to Remodelling of Heart to overcome hypotension problem (unless proved otherwise)
