What is Detox diet? 

  • Detoxification or body cleansing is a treatment in alternative medicine which helps to get rid the body of accumulated harmful substances that exert a negative effect on individual's health.  The diet recommended for this purpose is called as detox diet.
  • Detox diets are the dietary plans that claim to have detoxifying effects on the body. These cannot provide the normal basic colorific requirement if the body.
  • These diets comprise of water or fruits and vegetables. This will include limiting unprocessed foods along with limitations to alcohol and dairy products use. 

Methods used to modify diet into detox diet:

  • Eliminating caffeine, alcohol, processed food (including any bread), pre-made or canned food, salt, sugar, wheat, red meat, pork, fried and deep fried food, yellow cheese, cream, butter and margarine, shortening, etc.
  • Use of pure foods such as raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lentils, raw nuts and seeds, vegetable oils, herbs and herbal teas, water, etc.
  • And 'Master Cleanse' also known as the lemonade diet, terms that refer to the fasting diet.
  • Overall it is lifestyle modification rather than diet, with spiritual and psychological benefits.
  • When detoxifyng the body, elimination has two purposes: eliminating wastes from the body and eliminating certain foods from our regular diets. 

Simple steps to detoxify yourself:

  • During detoxification, you have to continue taking the normal diet that you are on. Including more of fruits and vegetables will help.
  • Remember to use unrefined carbohydrates, fruit, vegetables, grains, pulses and soya products during this period.
  • Having a 1 cup of hot water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice every morning on empty stomach is the most convenient method to start with.
  • Adding lots of lentils, spinach, salads and fruits to the diet, minimizing the dairy products, saturated fats and processed foods.
