Have Fever, Fatigue, Stomach Pain, Rashes On Forehead, Tiredness. What Could Have Happened?

Hi
I'm a 24 year old female who has recently been sick with some sort of virus (fever achiness fatigue stomach issues rash on forehead and neck) I have started to feel better however I am still tired and have these two lumps directly behind my ear just above the earlobe; in the crease of where the ear attaches to the skull is the best way I can explain it. They are flesh colored and hurt to the touch, seem to be hard and are directly next to each other. The bottom lump is apporximently the size of an eraser head and the top lump it a bit smaller. I was wondering what these could be? I noticed them yesterday. They seemed to have appeared almost overnight, though it may be that I just happened to notice them yesterday.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Do not worry as they could be related to a superficial skin infection, that could be reversed on its own in some days.

Usually, bumps are associated with pain, especially when they are located in such sensitive part of our body.

You can apply some cold compresses to that area; but do not scratch the bumps or "squeeze" to get out what's inside them.

If the bumps will grow up and you won't feel better in 3 or 4 days; call your doctor.

Hope it helped!

ENT Specialist Dr. Vaishali Mehta's  Response
Hello and Welcome to HCM,

I would think that the lumps are lymph nodes. These lymph nodes can enlarge following an ear infection/ infection of your scalp. Consult your doctor to rule out any sources of infection and for prescription of antibiotics for the same. Dandruff on scalp can also cause these to enlarge, for which you may need an antidandruff shampoo.

Hope you have a speedy recovery,
Dr Vaishali Mehta
