Cyst On The Ovary. Transvaginal Ultra Sound Has To Be Done. Cervical Hysterectomy Done And Taking Bio Identical Harmone Replacement Therapy. Advice?

They have recently discovered a cyst on my ovary and I am doing a Transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow, this is very concerning to me as I had cervical cancer in 2010 with a vaginal hysterectomy, my margins have been clear and HPV is clear as well. The cyst size is 1.8cm. what questions should or can I ask the Radiologist? Given my history how common is it to go forward with a complete removal of the ovaries and cyst. I am in mid menopause and 52 yrs old. I am currently taking bio identical hormaone replacement therapy.

Hello ma'am.

I have gone through your query and as you have already undergone a hysterectomy, you can go ahead with a bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy as well.

At your age and assuming you have sucessfully completed your family, you can continue with hormone replacement supplements and even estrogen creams to retain your sexual life; and go ahead with the remov of your ovaries.

As you have a history of cancer, you could have gone ahead with removal of the ovaries as well.

You might want to check with the radiologist about the size of the ovarian cyst(s) and whether or not they are functioning well enough. When you are recieving hormones in the form of supplements, you need not worry about removal of the ovaries.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
