Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It looks like the inflammatory markers that have been checked by your doctor show a increase in trend of the numbers. As I'm sure you might know this may reflect an underlying inflammatory or infectious process.

If you are having symptoms which seem to be progressing been it is very important to discuss this with your doctor to see what type of management he recommends.

Sometimes this type of situation will require anti-inflammatory medications or sometimes antibiotics.

Thank you again for sending your questions.

Sincerely,

Ok what could possibly be inflamed internally? Im really worried that like a vital organ or something else fatal could be going on. Ive tested negative for lupus and RA.

Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thanks for the follow up.

Information internally can range from inflammation of the stomach or intestines to possibly inflammation of the pancreas. Typically this would cause some type of symptom including a domino discomfort, bloating or pain.

The other possibility is that you might have some degree of arthritis which would not be detectable on blood tests.

I don't think this is a life-threatening situation at this time. Please continue to follow up with her doctor. It is possible that the inflammatory markers XXXXXXX slowly decrease and go back to normal with the passage of time.

It worries me that within the last week the crp raised from 1.33 to 19 and the esr raised from 33 to 42 can being overweight cause these numbers?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Robert Galamaga (14 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
obesity would not generally be a factor contributing to increased in these inflammatory markers.

Since you have only had two blood tests it would be reasonable for your doctor to consider checking again in a couple of weeks. Try not to worry so much about these two blood tests right now. The laboratory numbers can also fluctuate a bit and are not always 100% accurate.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga

Brief Answer:
Followup

Detailed Answer:
hello again. Swollen glands six months ago or probably not related. These also most likely do not reflect active cancer or inflammation of the brain heart or lungs.

I will try to focus on good hydration and good nutrition. Also make sure to get plenty of rest. Finally make sure you are exercising at least a few days per week.

Thanks again for sending the question.

Hi my esr rate was 33 and my c reactive protein was 1.33. 3 days later it was repeated esr is 42 and crp is now 19.6 at what levels do these tests become dangerous? My doctor wants to retest in 3 weeks, is that too long of time to wait to retest?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

I think 3 weeks is a reasonable period of time to repeat these tests.

As far as danger - this depends on what is going on with the patient individually. If the patient is relatively well otherwise then this can generally be observed. If a patient is sick or fighting an infection then generally those underlying issues need to be addressed more immediately.

In your case I would continue to followup as your doctor has recommended.

Sincerely,

What if my numbers go really high within these 3 weeks without me knowing? What could happen? Is it true that most of the time this just indicates swollen joints from arthritis nothin more seriousg

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

On many occasions, elevation of these numbers can be related to mild arthritis.

I would otherwise not worry unless you happen to note new progressive symptoms such as fevers, chills, progressive and severe pains, nausea or vomiting. It is fine to otherwise wait for the lab results to return in 3 weeks.

What would these symptoms indicate? I have had some mild chills and nausea
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Those symptoms might suggest an underlying infection - possibly viral.

If you are feeling ill you should touch base with your doctor. If you have persistent active symptoms please contact your doctor. If you have had occasional nausea and a mild chill that resolved then reasonable to wait.

My wbc was 9.4 could it still be an infection?

Detailed Answer:
this is a normal white blood cell count.

This is not a guarantee of absence of infection. This is something you absolutely need to discuss with your primary care physician. We cannot provide any more reassurance otherwise.

Thank you very much for sending your question.
