What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?
Question: I am a 33 year old XXXXXXX female with no smoking history. One year ago they discovered a lung spot on my pre-employment x-ray and after a long delay I followed up with the CT scan on doctor's advice. The below is the latest from my CT scan done one month ago.
1. ill-Defined area of patchy ground glass opacification in the basal segments of the left lower lobe. It has a reversed halo appearance or 'atoll' sign which is non-specific but is seen in organising pneumonia and immunocompromised patients with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis.
2. There are also 2 prominent (L) hilar lymph nodes. The overall appearances represent post-infective/inflammatory change.
3. Two non-specific nodules are seen in the (R) upper and lower lobes (1cm and 1,1cm).
Is this suggestive or cancer or anything else serious? I have no significant symptoms other than a mild cough which comes and goes and recently some loss of appetite. .

All of these finding could be serious.
Number 1 may indicate a pneumonia or aspergillosis (fungal infection) in the lung.
Number 2- hilar lymph nodes are common in infections as above or also in lung cancer
Number 3-lung nodules are always suspicious for cancer but can also be caused from infection.
You need follow up with a pulmonologist for follow up and treatment of these findings
Do not delay, see your doctor and a pulmonologist as soon as possible
