What Does Fertility Monitor Showing Three Bars Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: If clearblue fertility monitor shows 3 bars does that mean I do ovulate even if you have polycystic ovaries? My doctor and specialist say I do ovulate if monitor shows 3 bars. Please don't suggest follicular growth scan as they won't do it

Brief Answer:
ovulation confirmed

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Yes it is sure that you ovulate in case clear blue fertility monitor shows 3 bars.
In PCOD though baseline LH levels are high but are still not in that range so as to show positive results on monitor.
So I'm happy to inform you that you do ovulate and thus stand high chances of conception if you do intercourse around the positive test result days.
I basically practice infertility so in case you have any questions related to the issue I will be glad to answer.
Regards
Dr Manisha

I have been to see fertility specialist. She suspects I have polycystic ovaries.

I have had vaginal swabs and an internal examination today. She has done a pregnancy test which is negative. She has arranged an ultrasound scan and hsg to be done. Also bloods on day 2 of next cycle bloods requested are serum FSH, lh, e2

My bmi is 45 and she wants it down to 30 before commencing any type of treatment which she said will probably be tablets to make me ovulate.

Can I still get pregnant with polycystic ovaries if I ovulate some months?

What is a hsg and does it hurt?

Husband also has to produce a semen test I am going to have to talk him round and be persuasive.

I am worried if I don't lose weight I will never get pregnant. Clearblue fertility monitor in the past has shown ovulation and some months no ovulation do you think I could keep try to use this.

If I lose weight can I reverse things naturally and start to ovulate?
I always had a regular 27-31 day cycle last month was 40 days and this month I now on day 34 with no bleeding. I am worried sick as I am trying to conceive and this just is not happening but my periods have now become so erratic I am losing faith I will ever fall pregnant with the way my periods are. Why the change and can I conceive naturally?

Husband will do semen analysis but I worried it will come back low. We have both decided we dont want IVF

Brief Answer:
Investigations needed,

Detailed Answer:
I have read all your history and can understand whole case scenario.
The main point I would like to emphasis here is that definitely high BMI and erratic periods interfere with fertility but PCOD is very common and many females with similar profile like yours conceive spontaneously without any treatment too.
But it is definitely better to lose weight which increases the chances of conception and lowers the chance of complications in case of spontaneous conception.
Erratic periods in your case is most probably due to the stress level and anxiety about conception issues.
Still I would like to know your blood work on day 2 of periods and your ultrasound and HSG reports, so that i can guide you in a customized way.
HSG is a very useful investigation and will tell us about the patency of fallopian tubes and it will also guide us that only wait and watch method with only clear blue monitor guidance will suffice or that you need higher treatment or not.
Get the reports and then we can discuss further plan of management.

I really hope husband has give enough sample. He literally only produced a tea spoon amount. I hope this is sufficient to be tested
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (53 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
enough sample

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear it is sufficient as normal volume of senen per ejaculation is usually between 2-5 cc and each teaspoon has a capacity of 5 cc so most probably report will be favorable.
All the best

My husband had a semen test on Wednesday doctor has rang today to say make a non urgent appointment is it bad news?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
details of the report needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I cannot comment over this without knowing the report first but since your doctor has called for a 'non urgent' appointment so most probably there is nothing much to worry and in any case it can be managed easily.
Let's hope for the best.

How can it be managed we both don't want ivf is there a tablet or something
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
management depends on sperm count

Detailed Answer:
See firstly let the report unveil.
Because further management will be decided by report only.
In case speem count is normal, nothing active needs to be done.
In case it is mildly reduced then drugs can be given to improve it.
In case moderately reduced then IUI viz in utero insemination will be a good option in which semen sample will be washed and only good speems will be harvested and injected into the uterus.
But in case sperm count is severely reduced then IVF will be the only option.
So just wait for the report and then we can discuss the implications.
All the best

I have no report but this is briefly what the GP says:

I can't see anything that is grossly abnormal and Phil's is 5%

Does this mean husband is ok?
Husband just got home from doctors and Doctor is pleased everything is well within the normal range in everything
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
blood test reports needed

Detailed Answer:
It is good to hear that semen analysis is normal so now all that is needed is your blood work and then we can plan further management.
Till then you can concentrate on weight loss and lifestyle management.
All the best.

Is 5% morphology good? I will let you know my blood results later
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manisha Jain (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
precautions advised

Detailed Answer:
According to new guidelines 4% or more morphology is good so by those guidelines it is fine but definitely it is on a lower side of the normal parameters.
He should take supplements, tablet Co-Q forte or fertiza-M or macsoza sachets twice a day for 3 months.
In the meanwhile he can
- take good amount of fruits and salads daily,
- avoid smoking and alcohol
- avoid stress or sleep lags
- can try yoga or meditation
- drink lots of water and lime juice.
- avoid tight underclothes or tight jeans for long hours.
Try these simple measures and till then indulge in mid cycle intercourse on alternate days
Wish you all the best.
