My lymph node is not going down and it already been like 1 month. i have seen like 5 doctor here in canada. 1 of the doctor treated me for strep throat and 2 of them is treated me for ear infection. I feel like i have some problem with my throat because some time i feel like i have something in my throat specially when i try to swallow my saliva. In last 1 month my doctors gave me Penicilline VX for my strep throat and ciprofloxin ear drop for my ear. I also noticed that i am getting burp since last 2 weeks and i Feel like there is something in the left side of my stomach. The doctor told me it can be acid reflux and now he referred me to an ENT specialist. Sometime i feel like i have something in my throat and sometime i feel mild pain when eat something. I dont have any pain in my lymph node but sometime it feel warm. It is very small in size

My lymph node went down for last 6-7 days but today again i felt like it again gain some size. I had my blood test and x ray of my neck and it came back normal.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The swelling is most likely to be a pre-auricular lymph node, related to the infection in the eye which took place a month ago.

2. There are normally more than 300 lymph nodes in the head and neck region. These cannot be felt easily. After these lymph nodes enlarge in response to an infection or inflammation, they do not regress to their original size. Hence they can then be palpated (felt) from then on.

3. Tenderness and warmth signifies an on going inflammation or infection. Hence you should get an ENT and Eye Specialist check-up.

4. Any sub-centimeter sized lymph node is considered reactive and not significant in terms of active follow up.

5. After treatment it will always be felt but not warm to touch or tender unless a fresh infection or inflammation ensues. They are part of the lymphatic system that helps fight infection and inflammation.

6. Your stomach upset and reflux is probably due to the antibiotics. Request a probiotic and multi-vitamin supplement.

7. It is good to hear that your tests are normal. This means that all these signs and symptoms will settle down soon.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Acid reflux, LPR and GERD are various parts of the spectrum of the same condition.

2. A foreign body sensation in the throat, difficulty in swallowing, frequent clearing of the throat, bitter taste/pain, discomfort in the throat/chest/abdomen, burping, bloating and so on are common symptoms.

3. An 8 to 12 week course of anti-reflux medication with strict diet control will settle the symptoms that you have. These medication should be taken under the supervision of a Gastroenterologist.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Thanks for your reply.

Today i went to ENT specialist. I told him about all my problems and everything. He said that i have nothing. He said that i am looking very anxious and nervous and because of this i am feeling all this. He said that he cant feel any swollen lymph node but i have it although it is very small and since last 3 day i have a warm feeling on that lymph node.

He said to carry on with the antacid for the next 2 month (SANDOZ-RABEPRAZOLE 10MG PER DAY) and then come to see him. He check my throat using some tourch like thing.

i think i have LPR. I also sometime feel like headache(it happens like once in 2-3 days). Does LPR cause headache.

I also asked the doctor about doing endoscopy but he said no to it.

I am still not very satisfied with the doctor and i don't know what to do.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Since the lymph node is very small, no active management is required. It will settle down on it's own.

2. LPR may cause headache. However, as mentioned earlier, 8 to 12 weeks of sustained treatment will settle your symptoms.

3. Add these OTC medications for two weeks: Histac EVT twice a day (dissolved in a glass of water) and Mucaine Gel one tablespoon before meals.

4. Videolaryngoscopy may be done after this treatment if the symptoms do not subside.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. No, do not add an antibiotic.

2. You recently had a course of antibiotics and a stomach upset.

3. Ciprofloxacin is unlikely to help.
