What is Ciprofloxacin?

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic of the quinolone group and is very effective in treating typhoid infection, pelvic infections and urinary tract infections. It is also useful in treating respiratory infections in lower doses.

I am a 29 year old male I have recently gone to the hospital and it turns out I have an urinary tract infection the gave me CIPROFLOXACIN 500 mg to take twice a day and I was told to drink water and cranberry juice. I noticed today that my stool is black and the drug info says to see doctor if stool is black I am wondering if the cranberry juice that also has other berries in it could be causing my stool to be black. Another thing is my penis is swollen and sore in some spots and I don't know if this is normal.

A well documented side effect of ciprofloxacin is Diarrhea which may be watery or bloody.
Stop the drugs at once and inform your doctor.
There are other group of antibiotics which can be prescribed.

I recently went to a urgent care center because I thought I had a UTI. They took a urine sample and gave me ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for 7 days. My labs came back with nothing for UTI. I am feel fine, but could it have been a STD and if so should I go back or would the ciprofloxacin take care of it?

Hi Doctor, I am 35 years old and married. My wife is 29 years old. We have 4 children and our youngest daughter is 5 years old. My wide was diagnosed for PID three years ago and since then she was prescribed different tips of anti-biotic by Gynecologists, but no result. Last month she was gone under an endramterial biopsy with no positive result. Recently a Gynecologist prescribed both of us with one dose (14 injections) of 1g ceftriaxone. All these medicine we took during the past three years were not effective. Grateful if you advise us what to do. Many thanks. The medicine taken are; Ciprofloxacin (500mg, 75mg), fluconazole, Clotrimazol, fungizole, Keto profane, Ami kacien (500mg), Azithromycin, Nystatin (oral) and ceftriaxone (1g)

Dear doctor, 3days back i felt pain on my upper lip and found a boil with a dry tip. As my usual habit i pinched it and removed the dryyellow tip thinking it to be the sees. Next morning i found the lip swollen 3times. Doctor prescribed me ciprofloxacin 500 twice and ibuprofen 400 thrice a day. I have taken these medicene for 2days.
