Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
A number of conditions could cause this.
One is steroids.
The other is your age, and peri menopausal changes in this age group due to hormonal changes which accompany this phase of life.
ANother reason could be stress, exercise , smoking, alcohol, weight gain or loss etc.
Endometrial hyperplasia, endometriosis, fibroids and polyps need to be ruled out too.
Please consult a gynecologist and go for an internal examination - per vaginum and per speculum.
Also a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
Plus hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT.
All the best

Thank you for your answer.
Would this be a symptom of cervical cancer as I had a smear test last December, that came back negative. Obviously I will consult my own GP.
Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Cervical cancer is a very remote possibility, I would not even suspect it, particularly with a recent negative smear.
However, a cervical polyp / erosion is probable.
That is why I insisted on an internal exam - a per speculum check up will rule out cervical lesions.
Take care.
