What Causes Lower Back Pain After Having Diflucan?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Aug 2014
Question: My almost 3 year old son has had thrush in his mouth and esophagas for a little over 2 weeks now. He was spitting out the nystatin so we tried Diflucan, which has reduced his hoarseness a lot and the thrush seems to be clearing in his mouth and back of throat. He is on day 2 of the Diflucan.

However, he has swollen tonsils (although he isnt complaining that they bother him and is eating and drinking fine) and just today, started complaining of lower back pain. He is on his second day of Diflucan. Does this medicine cause lower back pain or should I be concerned about something else? He was in the ER 6 days ago because I was worried about cancer or something else causing thrush, and had a normal cbc with differentials blood test. His energy level is fine.

Not sure where to go from here, thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
yes it can cause back pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Diflucan is flucanozole which is known to cause back pain. But there is no need to worry. It will settle on it's own.

But tonsillar enlargement may not be related to this. It is a separate bacterial infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics like amoxicillin. Discuss with the treating doctor regarding this and start him on Antibiotics.

Ensure he drinks plenty of liquids to keep hydrated.

Wishing him speedy recovery.
