Questions and answers on "Hoarseness"

I have been taking brintellix 5mg. with Cymbalta 60mg and amberon 7.5 mg. for 10 days now. The last 3 days I have been experiencing hoarseness. I also take opiods for severe osteoarthiritis pain, .5mg Xanax 3 times daily, flexeril - 2 times daily, halcion - .25 nightly, amberon 7.5 nightly. The brintellix is new for me. I have been on the other meds for years. Also concerta 18mg. daily. I am afraid that the hoarseness has something to do with serotonin syndrome! Since I started taking it, I actually feel human for the first time in 37 years of trying tons of other antidepressants. I'm not manic, I just feel like a real person. But I am terrified of the serotonin syndrome. Should I ask my doctor to cut out the other antidepressants and just take the brintellix, and could the hoarseness be associated with this new drug? I have never felt as "leveled out" as I do now, and I want desparately for this to be the drug that finally helps me with my major depressive disorder, but am very concerned about the serotonin syndrome!! Please help!!

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Brintellix (Vortioxetine) and Cymbalta (Duloxetine) and Amberon all are anti depressants. All these drugs act by increasing the concentration of serotonin and nor-adrenaline in brain. You are also...

Had Chest X-ray as I had been having hoarseness and some dry coughing for about a month. Chest xray showed "mild biapical pleural thickening appear stable. Mild blunting of the posterior costophrenic sulci is likely on the basis of mild pleural thickening rahtner than trace pleural fluid. Lungs and pleural spaces otherwise appear clear.

I am extremely anxious what this could mean. I am scheduled for a chest CT in a few days. I am 52, female, non smoker and active.
I should mention that I had a chest x XXXXXXX at the same facility one year ago and they compared that sray to the one I just had. I assume that is why they said the Mild biapical pleural thickening appearing stable. Thanks

I have been on the HCG diet and have developed hoarseness. Can you tell me why.

doctor1 MD

Hello.

Thanks for posting the query.

Hoarseness of voice is not a side effect of HCG (Human chorionic gonadotrophin).

The causes of hoarseness should be excluded which are benign vocal cord nodules , polyps, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), allergies, inhalation of irritants/smoking, thyroid...

My son has tetralogy of fallot(actually pentalogy of fallot) and is scheduled for surgery at the end of June( he will be nine months). A week and a half ago, he started to have hoarseness in his voice. I know this can be a symptom of early congestive heart failure. He also sweats while feeding. He has good weight gain though and is a pink tet baby. Should I be concerned that he is going to start going into acute heart failure? He has a left to right shunt which makes him more at risk for CHF than blue spells.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your concern. However hoarseness of voice can be due to other reasons like upper respiratory tract infection for which your son will be prone to. I suggest that you get him examined by the doctors who shall evaluate the cause of the hoarseness and...

Hi

Thanks for the query

The hoarseness following aspiration of the food material could be due to two reasons:
1. Retained foreign body in the wind pipe
2. Swelling over the vocal cords following violent cough

With respect to the aspiration, if you feel there is breathing difficulty along with...

I m 60 yrs. old, 178lbs and pretty good health. The following symtoms I have a tickle in my throat which leads to a cough watery eyes with pressure, runny nose, clearing throat and sometimes hoarseness. I drink water and eventually stops. I have been to ENT doctor.(which recommended having an endoscopy). I have had an endoscopy, which the Dr. mentioned Barett s esophagus (no cancer). I m on Nexium 40 mg since March but then started feeling a lump in my throat everytime I swallowed. I went back to ENT Dr. (no lump to be seen) but said the symtoms I mentioned sound like LPR Reflux (given a booklet) and yes I have about (4) symtoms. Now I m also on Zantac 150 MG. I don t see much change with all the medicine. I had/have NO SYMTOMS at all of heartburn, acid coming up, burping etc. right from the beginning just a chronic cough which lead to the ENT Dr. which lead to so on so forth. I m leary of staying on any medication for a long period of time, especially PPI s. What possibly do you think my condition may be and what is your thought about the medications. Thank you Patrice

My name is Jennifer. I am a 41 year old female, 5 9 , 125 LB. Over the past 10 years I have had symptoms of arrhythmias , chest pain, breathing problems (inability to breath deeply), coughing and severe hoarseness usually coinciding with the other problems. It seems to be getting slowly worse as I get older. I sleep sitting up. If I lay down I risk waking up with significant chest pain, choking and arrhythmias. I tried to get a diagnosis in my 30 s but no one found the source of my problem before I lost my insurance and stopped pursuing it. I recently went to a chiropractor and had x-rays taken. There is significant compression and misalignment between C3 and C4. There is also some arthritic changes between these vertebrae. I used to break horses when I was in my early 20 s and at one point directly fell on my head and was knocked out. I assume that is what caused this particular injury. My question is could this injury be causing the arrhythmias, chest pain, breathing problems and hoarseness? I know you can t answer with certainty I am just curious if it is a possibility. Thank you for your time, Jennifer

I have a cyst on my left thyroid, and the biopsy results were sparsely cellular and composed of rare groups of follicular epithelial cells in a background of scant colloid and blood. Insufficient for a definitive diagnosis. My ultrasound results are thyroid adenomas, multinodular goiter. Blood test results TSH levels is 0.65, T3 total is121, T4 free is 1.1, titer is posituve, speckled, 1:40. I do have hoarseness at time, and wake up at night with throat dry, and I get hot flashes a lot. What should been done now.
