Question: I had rapid pulse with missing every other beat and sudden high blood pressure. Ambulance to A nd E and diagnosed with aetrial fibulation. I then got stomach pains and several bouts of bright yellow diarreah. I had been on oxy-condone off ten days. Could this possibly have caused it ? E mail YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
oxycodone and atrial fibrillation

Detailed Answer:
Hi! It would have more appricaible if you had shared the reason that why we're you on oxycodone?

By the way, oxycodone has side effects on heart but not causing fast heart rates normally, rather is more notorious for slow heart beats and similarly more often causes constipation than diarrhoea.

Hope that diarrhoea episode settled because that can trigger fast heart rate on the other hand.

Another thing, did they put you on regular warfarin or gave you one dose?

They gave me two injections of Warferin in my stomach. I am now home and my GP will not give me Waferin because it has to be administered by an RNI clinic and monitored.
I was on oxy-condone because I had replacement knee surgery a year ago performed by the Queen of Enlands surgeon Professor Cobb and it has been unbearably painful ever since. I have been on morphine capsules every 12 hrs for 8 years due to back pain, which I tolerate very well. Also had Shingles in my eye two weeks ago so really only started oxy-condone then.
My heart rate is now normal and no fibulation so wonder if I need Warferin. I have been under considerable stress as my husband of 50 yrs died recently of polycythaemia.

Brief Answer:
oxycodone, warfarin and AF

Detailed Answer:
Hi! It is sad to know what you had to go through. Since the episode of AF has settled and you describe your heart rate to be regular, so there appears no reason for warfarin. You may need long term heart rythm controlling medications like beta blockers or specific calcium channel blockers. But you can continue with monitoring until your next followup with your cardiologist. You can occasionally check your pulse for regularity or rough estimation that whether heart is beating normally or too fast or too slow. Meanwhile for other issues you can continue oxycodone as your doctor prescribed, because your pain relief of both shingles and knee must be debilitating.
