Brief Answer: Sinus infection can be a cause Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for the query. Foul smell in nose can be because of sinusitis. It is not uncommon for chronically ill patients to have sinus infection. Also chronically ill patients have their immunity lowered and that makes them prone to sinus infection. Other than bacterial sinus infection, fungal infection in the sinuses is also common in chronically ill patients. Apart from that retained secretions which get dried up in the nose and paranasal sinuses can also be a cause of foul smell as also the excessive scabbing in such patients. Please get an ENT examination done and a CT scan paranasal sinuses will put more light on the issue. Also please keep the hydration status of the patient normal. Loss of appetite can be the end result of multiple problems in the body and will be more related to pancreatitis. Feel free to ask another query. Regards
