Question: I doubt about my pregnancy as I missed my periods. I do not want to get pregnant right now. Please tell me what to do? How to check if I am pregnant or not and if yes how can I prevent it?

Brief Answer:
Please get a HPT or blood test and sonogram.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

If you have always been regular with your cycles, are sexually active without any contraception and have missed your period, the chances of conception are very high.

You can get a home pregnancy test 3-7 days after the missed period with a fresh early morning sample of urine or go for the estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres for an earlier and better confirmation.

A trans-vaginal sonogram performed a week after the missed period is an additional benefit.

If you are pregnant, if you do not wish to retain the pregnancy, you should see a specialist and get a proper prescription to induce a medical abortion. This is done to ensure safety not only for the present state but also for the future fertility.

Once everything is settled, please go for a regular form of contraception to avoid such difficulties in future.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Already been mentioned.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

As I have already mentioned, please confirm the presence of an intrauterine pregnancy along with the gestational age and get a medical abortion done under the supervision of a specialist. Several drugs are available for the purpose and the most commonly used combination is Mifepristone and Misoprostol.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please get back if you need more information. I will be ready to help.

Brief Answer:
3-7 days after the missed period.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing again.

As I have already mentioned, you can test with a HPT 3-7 days after the missed period using a fresh early morning sample of urine. The test reads well at this stage. An estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres can be done even before the missed period; this is a very sensitive method and reads low titres of hormone too.

Hope all your queries have been answered. Please contact if you need any more information. I will be available to help.

Wish you good health.

regards,
Shanti.V.
