What Causes Constant Sore Throat?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: I have had a mildly sore throat for several weeks now. My tonsil on the right side has a white spot on it, and seems to be where the soreness is coming from! I have no fever, and was on a 5 day course of Azithromycin, which did nothing to help. I have tried gargling with salt warm salt water for a day or two, as well as with diluted hydrogen peroxide a time or two. The soreness isnt that painful, just an annoyance, but would like to get it taken care of for good! Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Viral in nature and requires only symptomatic treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
Most of the sore throat are virus in nature and requires only symptomatic treatment.

Presently I would suggest you to drink plenty of water especially warm water, it helps in soothing the throat. Warm salt water gargaling 3 to 4 times a day. Steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil in it 3 - 4 times a day. You can take 5 ml of Ascoril expectorants three times a day. Kindly ask about this drugs with your local physician, these are prescription based agents. And also suck lozenges like strepsil or cofsil 2 to 3 per day. Kindly follow this measures, your symptoms should subside.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you. Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.

Take care.

I live out of town in a rather remote area, and only have access to a health clinic 20 miles away. I saw them for a throat swab a couple weeks ago, thinking it was strep throat. Anyway, I appreciate the advice you gave me to see a doctor, but would like to know if that is that important at this point. Is the white spot of concern? I have a history of tonsillitis, mostly in my 20's, but not since then. I am a very active, healthy 67 yoa, and don't pay these minor things, like a sore throat, much attention. Would you think there is something more serious going on here? Please let me know! Thank you for your time.
