Hi,

Penicillin is an antibiotic commonly used to treat bacterial infections, including tonsillitis. While penicillin is generally considered safe, it can have potential side effects. However, the symptoms you described, such as pain in the hands and swelling in the vaginal area, are not commonly associated with penicillin use.

Painful and swollen hands could be indicative of a separate issue unrelated to the medication. There are various possible causes for these symptoms, such as inflammatory conditions, infections, or even an allergic reaction to something other than antibiotics. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and accurate diagnosis.

The swollen vaginal area may or may not be related to your current symptoms. It's possible that it could be due to a separate issue or an underlying condition. Again, seeking medical advice to determine the cause and appropriate treatment is essential.

Additionally, it's worth noting that, while relatively rare, allergic reactions to penicillin can occur. They can manifest as skin rashes, itching, or swelling, but are typically not limited to the hands and vaginal area alone. If you suspect an allergic reaction to the medication, contacting your healthcare provider promptly for further evaluation is important.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up query.
