Hydrogen peroxide

What is Hydrogen peroxide?

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound with the formula . In its pure form it is a colorless liquid, slightly more viscous than water; however, for safety reasons it is normally used as an aqueous solution. Hydrogen peroxide is the simplest peroxide (a compound with an oxygen-oxygen single bond) and finds use as a strong oxidizer, bleaching agent and disinfectant. Concentrated hydrogen peroxide, or 'high-test peroxide,' is a reactive oxygen species and has been used as a propellant in rocketry.

Hydrogen peroxide is often described as being “water but with one more oxygen atom” a description which can give the incorrect impression that there is a great deal of similarity between the two compounds. Pure hydrogen peroxide will explode if heated to boiling, will cause serious contact burns to the skin and can set materials alight on contact. For these reasons it is usually handled as a dilute solution (household grades are typically 3-6%). Its chemistry is dominated by the nature of its unstable peroxide bond.

Questions and answers on "Hydrogen peroxide"

I developed a canker sore on Sunday and it s been bothering me ever since. I ve come to the conclusion that it s been caused by my left canine tooth as it perfectly rests ontop of the sore when my mouth is closed. I ve been using a lot of Hydrogen Peroxide and Salt Water mouth wash to cleanse it but i m more concerned with its constant brushing against my canine and other teeth . Should I be using cotton to act as a buffet between it and my teeth? I ve been trying as much but it seems to soak up a lot of my saliva rather quickly. I also heard I shouldn t keep it dry because salvia helps too? At any rate i d appreciate as much advice as possible. Eating and brushing my teeth have become chores this week.
salt water with luke warm water is advisable , but stop the hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. take vitamin b 12 tablets. rinse with benadryl. go to a dentist and get your sharp tooth rounded so that it does not traumatise the mucosa.
yes do not keep it dry as the saliva is known to have antibiotic...

I have a sore slightly to the right of my butt crack that is extremely painful. It is a round raised circle and is burning with pain all the time. What is this? I have been cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide and applying neosporin and covering with a bandaid. This gives some relief, but it is short-lived. Is there anything else I can do?
it could be pilonidal sinus, its a collection of pus or hairy like material beneath the skin, occurs at the region of butt crack, u need to see surgeon, he will drain the pus and prescribe antibiotics.

Hello I have been dealing with an ear ache, and last night I had put a little hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip and inserted it in my ear canal . when I pulled it back out there was a lot of blood . When the bleeding stopped my partner had me put some olive oil in my ear and go back to bed. Now that I have woken up I m partially deaf in that ear. Is this something that will heal on it s own? I can t afford health care.

Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.

It seems you have traumatized your auditory canal. In such cases the most common injuries are located over the tympanic membrane (ear drum) and such injuries do heal well if you been healthy.

However as you report hearing impairment, it warrants a clinical...

Last week, I used hydrogen peroxide and water mixture to clear up signs of BV. I usually have to do this 1-2 times a year. My period was from January 7-11. I douched with the mixture on January 17 and had sex on the 18th. My period has been regular my entire life. But on January 23, I started bleeding again as if its my period, ten days early. There was no spotting ahead of time. I also have pain in my lower right abdomen . I wouldn t say it feels like cramps . I usually get those in the middle of my abdomen. I m just wondering if there s a connection between the douching, pain, and early period. Thank you
hyderogen peroxide is acid as it should be used over skin not on mucosal caities there can be ulcers inside vagina or like bruising or dryness and decreased secretions and more prone to trauma on sex
the inflamation can go up causing abdominal pINS

So I had a ovarian cyst removed a year ago - the small incision on my left side healed fine - however the small incision on my right side just will not heal. It gets infected and I squeeze out the puss and treat it with hydrogen peroxide - it starts to get better and will scab - then the scab falls off and it starts all over again.
Thank you for posting your question here, I will try to answer it to the best of my abilities.

First off I am surprised that your surgeons didnt notice this infection during your follow up after the surgery. From what I can tell the infection is pretty thorough and when you do clean it, you...

On my scalp i've had a red bump for about a month. At first it seemed to be a pimple on my scalp but i popped it and it turned into a blood red squishy lump that no matter how many times i've sanitized and drained it it just fills up and grows back to size again. Also when i drain it large amounts of blood come out unless i use hydrogen peroxide to stop the bleeding
Hi, It seems that you are having Perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens (PCAS), also known as dissecting cellultis of scalp, usually begins as a simple folliculitis, most often of the vertex and/or occiput, with clusters of perifollicular pustules rapidly followed by abscess and sinus...

Hi, I have a question. About two months ago I noticed a pore on my nose was bleeding . It healed over but the skin around it stayed red, looking like it was infected, and one day it started bleeding again. I have since tried to clean it out with hydrogen peroxide and that has reduced the redness but the pore is now wide open and it doesn t ever seem to heal. Is there anything I can do or do I need to see a skin doctor?
It seems You might be having ingrown hair follicle infection.
You need one course of antibiotic for healing.
With local dressing it is not going to heal.
Consult your doctor and get examined.
Ok and take care.

i think i may have burned my tongue when i used hydrogen peroxide , it has some soreness to it it hurts when i swallow or spit and my gums feel a bit inflamed, any remedies, or any chance you may know what is wrong its kept me from eating and i ve only taken fluids but i ve been freaking myself out by searching for answers online
The soreness on tongue and gums may be due to-peroxide radicals released from hydrogen peroxide solution.
I would advice you to take plenty of water and fluids.
Apply mucopain gel on the inflamed area.
Frequent ice packs has to be applied.
Avoid intake of hot/spicy foods.
