Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: I have constant pain in mine lower abdomen. I am bloated and I can't digest properly. I barely eating but I am not losing a gram. Actually I am putting on weight. I am burping and sometimes vomiting after food. I did a laparoscopy, a colonoscopy, blood test, gall bladder ultrasound, pelvic MRI and hips X-ray. They found endometriosis on my colon. My petiod is very irregular and I am constantly in pain. I have been suggested to laser the endometriosis but I am in year 12 and I try to wait the end of school year. Could be another the cause of the pain? There is anything I can try to stop the pain and bloating? Thank you

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
I sincerely empathise with you. You have done all the relevant investigations. In all probability all your symptoms seem to be due to endometriosis. Yet I suggest you consult Physician/ Gastroenterologist to make sure that your symptoms are not due to inflammatory bowel disease.

To confirm that these symptoms are due to endometriosis you can take oral contraceptives continuously for three months(active pills) or Inj Zoladex monthly for 2 months. Within a month of taking these pills or injection if your symptoms reduce it suggests that it is due to endometriosis.
As regards weight reduction, what is your BMI? If you are obese consult dietician. Join gym and take personal trainer to reduce weight. Regular exercises wil also help you to manage pain better.
I hope this helps. If you have further concerns, I will behappy to answer.

Thank you Dr Wani. I can't take the pill until I have a period. My pain it seems getting worse when I move too much. Sometimes I can't even stand or seat. I can't go to the gym. I need something to manage the pain while I am waiting the period and try the pill. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
When did you get your last period? If it is within last two weeks you can start taking contraceptive pill now. It will not cause any problem. You can use extended cycle contraceptive pills like Seasonale, Seasonque, quartette etc. If you don't find them you can use active pills from three packs of monthly contraceptive pills.

If you wish to wait for your periods to start contraceptive pills, you can use NSAIDs like Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily after meals for pain relief. Hot water bag / hot wheat bag also gives relief to some extent. Discuss with your doctor and visit physiotherapy unit to use Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) for pain relief.

I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Thank you for your suggestion. Actually, there are not pain killers that make a difference. I am always in pain with a bloated tummy. I will try TENS
