Question: I've been taking Doxycycline Mono (100 mg) one a day for two weeks, prescribed by my dentist. My tongue is really red and burns a little and also looks kind of white. Is this an allergic reaction to this drug?

Brief Answer:
Can be fungal infection, needs more details..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTH CARE MAGIC..

As per your complaint, redness and burning of tongue can be a side effect of antibiotic intake but if there is white coating also it can be probably due to fungal known as Oral Thrush..

I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better..

1. Do you have a dry mouth also along with the symptoms you described ?
2. Is the white layer/ coating scrappable ?
3. Since how many days are these symptoms persisting ?
4. If possible please upload an image of your tongue..You can simply upload/attach it at the reports section..

thanks. I looked up a picture of "oral thrush" and that is what my tongue looks like. I'll call my dentist Monday.

Thanks again,

Brief Answer:
No worries..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

In case if it looks like Thrush then current antibiotics should be stopped and taking antifungal medication like Nystatin mouthwash, Clotrimazole lozenges and plenty of Probiotics like Yogurt and garlic will help..

Hope this helps..
