Posted on Fri, 22 Sep 2017
Question: I have a protruding bulge that feels rigid that is partially inside and outside my rectum. There is allot of bleeding when I have a bowel movement and I have to keep my rectal area op[acked with tissue as there is constant leakage. Some blood and some whitish liquid when no blood is present. I am feeling weak and no energy.

Brief Answer:
Please upload a photo and provide some information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.

For how long have you had this bulge?
From how you are describing it, is seems like either hemorrhoids (the most possible diagnoses) or an abscess (if the bulge it is getting worse and worse, and if the liquid is pus). Also, if you have had it for a long time, we need to rule out the possibility of a rectum cancer, but that is very little possible.

Can you send me a photo so I can have a look at it? Simply click on the link to upload a file and follow the instructions. If this proves difficult, please send the image by mail to YYYY@YYYY and request that the image should be uploaded to your query.

Do you have fever?
Have you had it before, or is the first time you are having it?
Do you have problems with constipation generally?

Let me know as much information as possible, and I will be happy to give advises and be helpful.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

Regards,

I've had this about 6 weeks. At first I thought it might be a hemorrhoid but I've had those in the past and this is different. It hasn't changed much in size or shape since it first appeared. I've had acid reflux for about 20 years and take one Omeprazole for that each morning. I also have all the symptoms of IBS and most often have loose bowel movements (3 to 5 times each morning). As far as getting a picture to you; I'll need to wait until tomorrow and have my husband help me with that as I'm not very techie. I'll have him help with that tomorrow morning before he leaves for work.

Brief Answer:
Have you ever done a colonoscopy?

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mrs XXXX,

Thank you for the follow up question and the extra information.

From your description, I think we can rule out an abscess since you have had it for such a long time.
Some hemorrhoids persist for that long time though, especially if the tissues around are infected, because that does not allow decrease of the inflammation.
I will surely clarify that when I will have the photos, so looking forward to them.

Also, can you tell me if you have ever done a colonoscopy and if yes, when was that?

Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako

My husband has tried to upload the photo and cannot tell if it was successful. Please let us know.
In the photo, I'm covering my vaginal area with my hand and the growth is the pinkish elongated mass at the end of my fingertips.
As for your other question; no, I've never had a colonoscopy. Also, no fever. You'd asked if it had increased in size and after seeing the photo I believe it has at least doubled in size. I've also noticed if I exert myself (as in; if I go upstairs or walk briskly, my chest hurts and I become winded). I do intend to see a doctor but just wanted an opinion as to what direction I need to go in. Do I need a specialist or just general physician? Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
The photo is not clear. My recommendations included from what I can see.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for the photo. It came through, even if it is not very clear.
From what I see I think it may be a hemorrhoid, but it may be also an infected cyst.
So, yes I think you should see a local doctor who can examine you closely. It depends on the system of your country if you need to see a general physician first, but then maybe they will need to refer you at a proctologist, which is a doctor specialized for hemorrhoids or lesions in the anal/rectal area.

The weakness, and chest pain that you feel when you climb the stairs is most probably because of the continues loss of blood you have had during this time. You may have developed anemia. So you need to consider doing a complete blood count blood test to rule that out.
Also, you might consider doing a colonoscopy, which should be done in people over 55 years old to check the colon.

I hope this is helpful.
