What Are The Chances Of Cancer After When Having Endometriomas Adherent To The Uterus?
Question: Following a dianostic laparoscopy I have been told I have several endometriomas and that both my ovaries are firmly adhered to my womb, my consultant has recommended a hysterectomy with removal of my ovaries is there any reason I should worry about any kind of cancer due to the above?

Endometriomas which are adherent to the uterus and surrounding structures means that you have severe grade of endometriosis. It is not a cancerous condition, however there is excessive estrogen in body which can lead to endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma in this condition, but it is a very rare association. If you have completed your child bearing, you can safely go for hysterectomy. If you have irregular menstrual cycles, then you should have a endometrial biopsy prior to surgery to rule out endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma.

Thank you very much for your very speedy response, I have one more question which you may or may not be able to answer, is there any way that I would not need to have my ovaries removed, or is the fact that my consultant says they are FIRMLY adhered to my womb mean that they will have to be removed
