Posted on Mon, 27 Feb 2017
Question: I have shivering chills, awful gas, sinus pain, headache, feverish, swimmy headed, thick congestion, stopped up nose, post nasal drip, coughing, sneezing, neck and back pain and leg soreness and weakness.

Started with soreish throat coming on two and a half days ago and foul smelling gas and urine odor. Today it changed into all this. Always feel like cold dry air exposure outside takes me down. Any ideas of steps to take? If it continues and doesn't move out soon I will go to Dr.

Brief Answer:
sinusitis?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

your symptoms sound like sinusitis although various diseases could have caused similar symptoms. Influenza for example may present the very same way. Your doctor can usually distinguish between these entities (and others) with clinical examination. Tenderness over the sinuses and constant headache are two features most commonly seen in sinusitis.

Knowing the diagnosis is important in order to choose the right treatment. Sinusitis requires antibiotic treatment while various viral infections do not. You can also try rinsing the nostrils with normal saline to help your nose get rid of mucus and reduce the symptoms. Antihistamines and decongestants will help with rhinitis. Paracetamol helps with malaise and fever.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!

Yes it feels like sinus infection or respitory virus either viral or bacterial. I normally dont get fevers but have one now 100.6 that has seemed to climb. Neck and shoulders aggivated from cough and blowing nose so much. Also went to PT today and did excersizes and cupping could have compunded and mixed symptoms too. Ugh.

Ill do antihistimine, sudafed and Motrin. If smae tomorrow may vonsider some predinsone to open me up? If fever climbs ir no improvement in a day or so im off to Be looked at for sure. Thanks for the advice

Dont have the one drug you mentioned for fever but do have saline

Brief Answer:
paracetamol is acetaminophen...

Detailed Answer:
Paracetamol is acetaminophen... (Tylenol). I wouldn't recommend prednisone in a patient for this condition. Rinsing and managing congestion will help with the symptoms. Sudafed is a decongestant, so you can use it. Motrin is a NSAID. I usually advice patients to avoid NSAIDs unless absolutely necessary. NSAIDs may cause various problems like upper gastrointestinal irritation, worsening of hypertension, kidney problems, liver toxicity, allergic reactions, etc.

Brief Answer:
I don't believe so...

Detailed Answer:
Infections with fever may cause soreness on muscles due to circulating substances that affect inflammatory response. No real strain though.

Kind regards!
