Posted on Fri, 26 May 2017
Question: my husband has bee taking fluvoxamine Maleate for a month. 25 mg each night. After working very hard in the yard and 15 mile bike ride and not drinking enough water he had rigors at 2:23 Am with fever. i gave him water and Ibuprofen. He calmed down and slept. Low urine output and bibles at end of urinating. up and down fever of 102 to normal through the day and not rigors. I gave him fluid and then electrolyte drink. He began to have more urine output and feeling better. He still has bibles and air t the end of urination. Again Last night he had rigors at about 2:30 AM and elevated temp. After taking 1/4 of a 25 mg Valium and 350 mg of tylenol he was better in about half an hour. Should he cut fluvoxamine in half and see what happens? The bubbles and air at end of urination is puzzling.

Brief Answer:
fever and urinary problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM

I do understand your concern

As per your query let me clarify each point-:

1)Now he is taking [fluvoxamine Maleate] which is an anti depressant, perpetuate with it as advised by your treating Doctor.

2)As mentioned earlier he is suffering from fever and he has bubbles after micturation and I may say do a urine examination first to see how many [Pus cells] present. His fever is due to an infection only and he requires one antibiotics course [Ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin]] along with paracetamol for fever control. So you can discuss with your doctor.

3)No need to decrease dose of [fluvoxamine] and it has no connection with your disease.

4)No need to worry about bubbles and air at end of urination and it will be clear within few days after taking antibiotics.

5)Do drink plenty of water and it helps dilute your urine and urine will be more and any infection will be flushed.

6)Certain compounds like [proanthocyanidins] found in cranberries prevent bacteria from reaching the walls of the urethra and causing UTIs. Cranberry juice also has a very mild antibiotic affect. Drinking half a glass of cranberry juice daily is one of the easiest ways to prevent urinary tract infections.
Those suffering from a UTI should drink about three glasses of cranberry juice daily to prevent the infection from causing damage to the kidney.

Hope you got your points
