Questions and answers on "Tylenol"

My daughter attempted suicide and took a whole bottle of 100 Tylenol 500mg during the course of an afternoon before calling for assistance. Other prescription meds were involved too. (But only a couple of weeks worth). She received an antidote for the Tylenol and is now in a sub acute environment receiving "other treatment". She has told me that she has not eaten in the past four days (very nauseous) and has had mucus and blood discharge from her rectum. Could this be a symptom of something caused by the Tylenol?

Hi. I was checking to make sure I did not give my toddler an unsafe dose of tylenol. My husband mistakenly gave our son 5 mL of infant tylenol, thinking it was the type that was 160 mg acetaminophen per 5 mL dosage. Instead, it was the concentrated infant tylenol, which is 80 mg acetaminophen per 1.0 mL dosage. So, basically, he gave our 28 lb toddler 400 mg (5 mL, 80 mg per mL). I called poison control, who told me that because we hadn't given him any other tylenol all day (his last dose was 7 pm last night, and we gave him this dose at 7 pm tonight) we didn't need to worry. Is this correct?

doctor1 MD

Hello,
Welcome to health care magic
Tylenol contains acetaminophen which is given to reduce fever.Dose of tylenol is 10-15mg/kg/dose..So for ur 14 kg child it will work out to 140-210mg.But maximum daily dose is 60mg/kg ..I.e 1440mg for your child. So don't worry.Same time don't repeat for next...

COULD THIS BE TYLENOL POSION? WHAT OTHER PAIN MED CAN I USE TO GET PAIN RELEIF FROM ARTHORITIS? WHAT QUESTIONS OR TEST SHOULD I ASK FOR ON MY NEXT OFFICE VISIT TO CHECK MY LIVER?

doctor1 MD

You are allergic to tylenol & hence the rash. Also gastritis due to tylenol. Codeine has aggravated it. Avoid future use of tylenol and LIVER is normal.

my 7 year old daughter started her fever of 101.4 last night with cough meds and tylenol I was able to get her to sleep. Now, this morning, when she woke up, we noticed a blotchy red rash on her arms and face. It is not raised. Does not itch or burn. Has not spread or gone away with cough meds and tylenol. I've looked at pictures online and it doesn't seem to be 5th or 6th disease. It doesn't resemble heat rash either. What could this be?

doctor1 MD

Most rashes tend to be viral induced but it can be allergic although less likely since not itchy- but you may want to check the cough medicine and see if you stop that or perhaps there may be something in the Tyelnol ie a dye etc.
The main thing is that she is drinking, active and acting...
