Suggest Treatment For Chronic Migraines And Fibrimyalgia

default
Posted on Fri, 1 May 2015
Question: I'm being treated for at this time is for chronic migraines and fibromyalgia. I'm taking Trakendi XR 200 mg {1xday} for headaches and Gabapentin 600 mg {2xday} for fibromyalgia. I do have insomnia in which I take Trazadone 100 mg {2} at night for also. Okay.... I have been severely fatigued since last Spring. I talked to Dr. about it and several tests were ran including for Lupus which was negative. The fatigueness has increased tremendously the past few months. This past Friday, I started having involuntary jerking in both legs. I've been experiencing numbness and tingling in left leg for about a year now. Today, when I awoke I noticed my feet were both swollen. My left foot was swollen moreso than the right one. Along with it being swollen, there was numbness and tingling which over the course of about an hour continued to go up my left calf and thigh region. It is now 2pm and I notice slight pain in the leg when I sit down . I feel very weak in the arms as well but that has been going on for about a week.
I also have been having some urinary problems as well. I don't burn when I go or anything like that. However, I have to really strain hard to go or push on the urethea in order to urinate. I'm worried about this because I was born with only one functioning kidney. It was genetic as it was passed down from my fathers side of family. The other kidney is just pea sized as it didn't fully grow.
Activity wise, I go out and do what I can in the yard and I do housework but it's at a very slow pace with breaks.

What are your thoughts????

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to side effects. Check kidney function

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
You should check your kidney function as the swelling of the legs can be due to the same.
Numbness and tingling can be due to the side effects of Trokendi and Gabapentin. Urinary retention can occur with Trazodone and kidney problems and stones can occur with Trokendi.
Also there is adverse interaction between Trokendi and Trazodone.
You can improve your depression and mood with exercising 30 minutes per day, practising stress relieving measures like yoga , meditation or relaxation techniques and having a positive outcome. You are on high doses of medicines which produce sedation and lassitude. Reducing their doses gradually and better lifestyle and positive attitude with stress relieving measures will help you.
You are welcome to get back to me if you have further queries.

Do you suggest that I just follow up with regular family physician? Also, I forgot to tell you that my voice has been hoarse intermittently for the past two days. I do not presently have a cold to explain this. My tonsils have been removed several years ago. I do not have a sore throat or anything. I do have an uncomfortable feeling of some type of fluid in my left ear this evening. I don't know if that's related or not. Usually, this time of year, pollen gives people a lot of trouble. I usually don't have any trouble. Just the typical few sneezes now and then but that's it. Instead of having red, tearing eyes from the pollen; I've experienced dry eyes so I've added artificial tears.

Brief Answer:
A family physician can help .

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Sorry for the delay in replying due to the time zone difference.
You should also get your Thyroid function tested. Hypothyroidism can produce lassitude, hoarseness of voice.
Another possibility is a laryngitis. If you are allergic to pollen, one possibility is an allergic reaction in your upper respiratory tract. The is tube (Eustachian tube ) connecting the back of the nose to the ear. A block to the tube leads to accumulation of fluid in the ear. Your family physician will be able to detect and treat it. You may be referred to an ENT doctor if required.
So it's always good to follow up with a smart family physician who is available to examine you, investigate, treat /refer to specialist(s) as required.
Good day
