Brief Answer: Determined by the hemoglobin concentration Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX, Thanks for your query. Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common cause of anemia (low hemoglobin concentration). Iron is needed for the formation of hemoglobin, the red pigment in blood which carries oxygen to the body. Any deficiency in Iron thus results in reduced hemoglobin concentration (anemia) The causes can be: 1. Reduced dietary intake of iron. 2. Increased loss of blood from body. The severity of the condition is determined by the hemoglobin concentration as well as the presenting complaints of the individual. So, kindly let us know about the following: 1. What symptoms are you having & since how many days? 2. When & how were you detected with iron deficiency anemia? 3. What is your present hemoglobin level? 4. Any history of systemic disease like Hypertension, Diabetes, Thyroid disorder, etc? 5. History of increased menstrual bleeding, presence of ulcers in gastrointestinal tract, bleeding gums, presence of blood in urine or stool, intestinal infection with worms, etc.? 6. Any recent episode of stress, inadequate nutrition or lack of sleep? 7. Prolonged intake of any medicine? 8. Habit of smoking or alcohol consumption? A knowledge of the above mentioned questions will be helpful for us in understanding your concern better & formulate an appropriate management plan. Also attach the laboratory investigation reports along with your post. Hoping to hear from you soon. Take care.

Brief Answer: Iron supplements+ Thyroxine Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX, Thanks for your follow up query. 1. The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to decreased hemoglobin concentration (anemia) resulting in reduced oxygen supply to the tissues. 2. Reduced iron content points the diagnosis towards Iron deficiency anemia. The reasons for low iron can either be low iron intake in diet, poor absorption of iron in the gastrointestinal tract or increased excretion of iron from body. 3. Anemia with hemoglobin levels 10 can be managed with supplemental iron preparations, iron injections & intake of foods rich in iron content & Vitamin C. Kindly consult your General Physician and discuss regarding this. 4. Iron deficiency anemia is common in people with hypothyroidism as Thyroid hormone is needed for iron metabolism & blood formation. Under such circumstances, management involves combination of thyroid supplement (Thyroxine)+ Iron supplements. 5. Presence of blood in urine can be indicative of infection/ inflammation in the Kidneys or Urinary tract. It will be better to consult an Urologist for proper clinical examination & further management. 6. Maintain proper hydration & nutrition status, avoid stress & get good sleep. 7. Ethyroxane (thyroid hormone supplement) takes care of the hypothyroidism & glucophage (pharmacologically Metformin) regulates the blood sugar levels. Please continue them as advised by your Doctor & keep regular check on the levels of Hemoglobin, Thyroid profile & blood sugar levels. 8. It is appreciable to know that you are not indulged in any habits. Take good care of your health. There is no need to worry, you will be fine. Hope I have been able to clarify your doubts. Regards.
