Is Constant Dull Pain In My Lower Left Abdomen A Concern?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Feb 2017
Question: I have a pain in my lower left abdomen. It's not terribly painful but it has been going on for a couple of days. Curiously, it didn't bother me yesterday when I exercised at the gym.

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I read your symptoms and i will explain the most possible reason for a person to feel pain in that part of the abdomen.

Do you have other symptoms? Or just this pain?

Now in that abdominal part (lower left abdomen) the organs that usually gives pain are left ureter, a part of colon (we call it rectosigmoid junction)

If you have kidney stones,a stone in the left ureter, urinary tract infection, bladder infection you might feel this kind of pain. Also you would have other symptoms like frequent urination, blood in urine, urge to urinate, burning sensation while urinating.

According to the colon. Even passing gas, sometimes it can give you pain. In that part of the colon, the stools are harden, and sometimes the colon needs to do a harder move to get clean, and that can give you pain. Do you have any problems with passing gas? Are the stools harden than usual?

Awaiting....

I rarely have constipation, but in the last few days, I've had that issue. It's usually quite the opposite. I don't know that the stools are harder than usual.

Brief Answer:
Bowel movements...

Detailed Answer:
If your stools are harder these days,it might explain why you have this kind of pain. Your colon wants to get clean, and since the stools are harder,it has an increase in movement and you feel pain. With only this symptom, there is nothing to be worried right now.

Here are some advice to soften your stools and to have normal bowel movements:
-have plenty of water
-eat fresh fruits and vegetables
-fruits that have potassium like prunes, kiwi
-high fibre cereals
-wholegrain foods

For your pain you can use paracetamol.
If this symptom persist for more than 1 week it would be best to do an ultrasound of your abdomen just to be sure that there is nothing wrong.

If you have any other question, feel free to ask me.

Wishing good health at you.
