Hello ,

You have been prescribed ranitidine but it did not work all the time. I would like to suggest certain lifestyle modifications like taking small and frequent meals.
Avoid fatty and spicy foods, carbonated beverages, caffeine. Even alcohol and smoking can trigger indigestion.
If you are obese, cut down extra calories, exercise regularly and reduce your day to day stress.
Even if with lifestyle modification, you still continue to have symptoms then revisit your physician. Doctor might change ranitidine to other group of drugs called Proton pump inhibitors- omeprazole, lansoprazole.
As you are having chest pain and arm numbness, i would suggest you to rule out heart causes for same. Tell your physician about same concern. ECG might be required along with physical examination.
Take care.

Best regards,
Dr. Neelam.

Hi heidi spooner
The modern life style of living where man is always in rush to move and has no time for self is responsible in majority of cases for hyperacidity. Proper freshly cooked meals to be taken at right time is a must to avoid problem. No fast food or spices are permitted. Addictions are to be avoided. Apart from this hurry worry and curry all contribute to hyperacidity. Keep your mind cool and free from anxiety. Proper rest is a must . avoid constipation. Chewing of fennel after meals prevents gasous accumulation. Taking of cold milk neutralises the acute phase of acidity. Licorice is another herb that reduces acidity. Liver stimulant herbs also play a positive role in curing hyperacidity.
