What Causes Stomach Pain With Distended Abdomen And The Pain In Lower Back?

I have been experiencing episodes of stomach pain/distended abdomen (located in the center of my abdomen right at or shortly below the end of the breastbone) with pain that often radiates around my entire lower back. This has been going on for about 2-3 years. About 1 and a half years ago I went in finally complaining to my doctor. At that time I had an ultrasound that showed no gall stones, a normal gall bladder test, EGD that showed a potential start to an ulcer and possible GERD. Celiac disease test came back negative as well. At that time I was also started on omneprozole and that seemed to bring some relief for awhile. When symptoms seemed to return, or again increase in severity they did another EGD and did a test for reflux (placed the probe in the esophagus to measure reflux) and they determined only mild reflux and irritation of the esophagus. These episodes are life altering as continuing on with activity is difficult. Often the onset is in the midafternoon to early evening and I find if sit very still it helps. It often doesn t subside until somewhere in the night as I typically don t awake with any pain. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello

I have studied your case.

I will advise to start antacids [proton pump inhibitors like] rabeprazole 20 mg twice a day.
Sucralfate will protect gastric mucosa and will give protective covering.

Gases formation if you have can be reduced by eating easily digestible food stop non veg drink plenty of water.
If required you may need to do upper GI endoscopy.

Due to compression of nerve root there can be neck pain.
Also there can be disc bulge which is compressing over spinal cord.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.
Till time, avoid lifting weights. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give you relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 level.
If required MRI cervical spine need to be done along with blood investigation to rule out chronic arthritis.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
