What Are The Side Effects Of Statins?

I have FH and have been tested and carry the heterozygous gene so must take 40mg simvastatin daily. I get spots on my chin(mostly) and upper arms when i take the statin. If i stop the statin they go. What else can i take alongside the statin to stop the spots. I hate the spots so much that i want to stop the statin but my doc says its important to keep on statins. THANKS

Hi,

Simvastatin is a statin or HMG CoA reductase inhibitor that belongs to the group of medications known as lipid lowering agents is used to reduce high cholesterol, prevent atherosclerosis and lower the risks of heart attacks, strokes, chest pain or angina. Like other medications, Statins have some side effects too. Statins like Simvastatin may cause symptoms of allergic reactions after taking this medication such as rashes or spots on different parts of the body like chin, upper arms etc, itching, swelling of lips, tongue, throat, eyes, face, hands or feet, wheezing, breathing difficulties, dizziness, hypotension etc. If you experience any of these side effects, then you should inform your doctor promptly for medical attention. Without consulting your doctor, you should not stop taking this medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
