What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy With The Usage Of Condoms?

Hi- Discontinued birth control over six months ago and husband and I switched to condom usage. Cycles have been on the mark since then, very regular. 2 weeks until due for next cycle and noticed regular ovulation cramping, white/clear discharge, and fatigue as I do every month around this time. However, this morning I noticed brown discharge only when wiping...always use condom. It is too early to take test I would think, but on high dosage of zoloft and drink caffeine everyday so a little concerned. What are the chances of pregnancy if we have been using condom?

Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Condoms have a high failure rate - the rate varies from 3 % to 18 % depending on the method of usage and consistency.
So yes, a chance of pregnancy always exists.
In addition to that, erratic spotting can occur due to - stress, anxiety, emotional turbulence, weight gain or loss, ingestion of hormonal medications, late nights, erratic eating habits, smoking, drinking etc.
Excessive caffeine also can cause spotting.
Ovulatory spotting is also common.
Zoloft also can cause irregular spotting and bleeding.
Conditions such as hypothyroidism, PCOS ( polycystic ovarian syndrome ) ,endometrial hyperplasia etc can cause such spotting also.
If the spotting recurs, please see a gynecologist and have a thorough internal evaluation - per vaginum and per speculum.
ALso hormonal assessment - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid profile etc.
A pregnancy test should be taken if you skip your normal period, or it gets replaced with erratic spotting.
All the best.
Take care.
