Treatment For Gas, Bloating, Lower Pelvic Pain?

Hi I had a hystrectomy in June. It was laparoscopic procedure. I seemed to heal well. Took it easy until the Dr. Told me I can resume my normal activities and get back to work.. I started taking HRT, was feeling great. Until November, feeling a little edgy and crazy without a sex drive. My HRTwas switched up and feeling balanced. January comes and I am starting to feel extremely gassy. Thought I had a stomach bug, so I wait it out. Three weeks later, I go to a gastro Dr. They do a couple of tests, they say everything is normal gave me Levsin and said welcome to middle age ! Whatever THAT means! They diagnosed me with IBS. Which means they have no idea what s wrong with me. So they basically wrote me off. I am still experiencing gas and bloating and pain in my lower pelvic reason whenever I eat. The pain is near my belly button and lower. I am not a Dr, nor am I in the medical field. But could it be I have adhesions growing and pressing on my intestines? I have a terrible family history of cancer. My mother and father both died at 58. Mom of Ovarian and my Dad had pancreatic. I don t mean to sound dramatic, but I am really starting to worry that something is terribly wrong.. Any insight you may have, is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history well from Hysterectomy to great post-op for long, HRT but followed by gases, bloating and lower pelvic pain, opinion of a Gastroenterologist saying about IBS and starting you on Levsin and saying welcome to middle age.
For one to say has IBS one needs to do the following investigations:
Colonoscopy, upper GI Endoscopy.
CT scan of abdomen.
Tests of stool, blood and urine.
Other relevant tests as per the clinical picture.
If any of the tests show positive findings you will be treated specifically.
If all the tests are normal then only it can be said to be IBS that is Irritable Bowel Syndrome and treated accordingly.
Control of stress and anxiety is the mainstay with or without medications.
All these tests will also help to rule out cancer of any sort so stop worrying.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
