Test Shows High Levels Of ALT, A Possible Muscle Breakdown After Bootcamp Workout. Is This Dangerous?

Hi
No known health issues before. My sister who is 31 years old ,who is new to workout ,has started a bootcamp workout at a gym last week and came home very sore. Her arms were very painful and in two days noticed that her arms and hands were very swollen. She went to urgent care and they performed test and found ALT levels very high of 350 and predicted a possible muscle breakdown and sent her to ER now. Please suggest if this is dangerous or treatable.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
There are thousands enzymes present in liver but here we will discuss only about ALANINE AMINOTRANSFERASE OR ALT .
Normal value is 5-50 I / U.
A S T ( aspartate aminotransferase ) is found in liver, cardiac muscle, SKELETAL MUSCLE, kidneys , brain , pancreas, w b cs & rbcs in decreasing order of concentration.
While A L T ( as you mentioned in your query ) is found primarily in the liver.
This is high ( if less then 200 than non specific ) 350 IU .
In my opinion please consult a physician and get his opinion as well complete liver function test.
Hope I have answered your question.
If further any question I will help happily.
Good luck for your sister.
